Trying to get rid of poison ivy. Is Roundup or Brush b gone more effective?
I’ve had better luck with Brush Be Gone, or other brush killers, rather than RoundUp. Really have to wet it down too.
There are different grades of Roundup. The stuff from Lowe’s is consumer grade, and kinda wimpy. There is a brush killer version you can get from a farm supply that will do the job easily.
Is burning an option? I have done that in the past with good success.
I wouldn’t do it because even the smoke will cause the rash for me. Fire works wonders on the vine, however.
ETA: Per previous post, Brush-B-Gone is great stuff, too.
Whatever you use, read and follow the directions very carefully.
Burning PI is a potentially dangerous operation. Getting PI in your respiratory tract isn’t fun.
I’ve never had a problem getting rid of the small patch of poison ivy in my yard with Roundup Extended Control but it’s only like 2’x4’ and I get it fairly early, before it’s even gotten vine-y.
Fire is not an option. Too close to the house. In the past I have used Roundup concentrate, which I would then dilute to give me brush control proportions. I happened to find some Weed be gon and used that yesterday.
Ortho Ground Clear works quite well.
Roundup (glyphosate), even mixed strong, is not very effective against hardy woody plants, especially poison ivy. Use Brush Be Gone.
Add a few drops of dish soap to what you use. It helps the weed killer stick to the plant and not just run off of it.
Round up ProMax uses a surfactant to do this, but dish soap works pretty well, too.

If you know where the bases of the stems are, use a little bleach right at the stems.
