I want to fill in bare spots in my yard with something does not need watering or fertilizing or any care at all, you know, weeds. Does anyone sell dandelion seeds or other weed type plants?
Do you have neighbors who have lawns? If you do, and you do not want them to lynch you, don’t do dandelions.
Rather than a weed/wildflower like dandelion, My recommendation would be for what is commonly called buffalo grass. It survives well with little water and is tougher that a five-year-old kid. It cuts to a unified length and will grow in almost any kind of ground. It is extremely low maintainence.
My big criticism of it is that it is not quite as soft as general lawn grass and that it is so tough that nothing can fight it back (not even bermuda grass) once it gets a foothold.
Any garden supply place should have a buffalo grass seed.
TV time offers, in part;
Goodness me, all that from one little seed?
I know, I know. I’m leaving.

If you want truly happy weeds that are hard to kill, it’s hard to beat the native plants of whatever part of the world you live in. Many state universities have websites devoted to native plant species. These can tell you what will grow where, and even supply information on where to get seed(s) or small plants.
Try limiting this native plant search with the name of your home state, province, country or whatever.
Along the lines of what Squink said, you might take a look at www.wildseedfarms.com . I’m looking at their real paper-and-staples cataloge right now and they offer a large variety of wildflower seeds and clearly tell you what region they belong in / will grow in. They aslo offer ‘mixes’ of different wildflowers for each region.
Hope that helps,

Ok, koawala, I’ll let you in on my little secret.
Try doing just as you say, “no care at all”. No watering, no weeding, no mowing. Nuttin’. You’ll probably be surprised at what pops up.
My backyard is totally free to do as it likes, and I like it. Looks cool.
TV time, in spite of the agregious grammatical error, is right about the buffalo grass. But it will take over.

Just how far from the Cuba is Berkekey, that they allow this radical approach to lawn care ?
Not that far, actually. But…
I don’t want to do the payback (which I fully deserve) for my nit-picking of TV’s omission of a little “s”.
WGACA, they say.

I shall now post sans preview.
