Colossus and Sinister are related? I thought they already ruined Sinister by making him some sort of Victorian scientist while we know Colossus wasn’t born until the '40s?

Something that stupid wouldn’t surprise me, although I would be really disappointed, especially since it seems that Whedon’s really only combining old plots to get his ideas from. (The one in particular is that the good guy’s really a bad guy - like with Xorn/Magneto). Fortunately, this is the only X-Men I’ve read since issue #18 or so of X-Treme (I think I stopped reading when they dropped Larocca) and before that I hadn’t read since before Image started.

I think I’ve mentioned before that Peter’s return was really cool in conception but really, really awful in execution. I have to admit I really loved the late-80s where Claremont would run a story for years before it was resolved. 6-issue chunks (to make that TPB price point of $14.95) really don’t work for me: too much filler in the beginning and grand ideas to get the readers with little space to follow through on anything.

*Look * like they were separated at birth. I will read all the words next time. :smack:

Majestic #4 of 4 - Looks like Majestros gets his own regular series from Wildstorm shortly … and based on what I’ve seen here, I’ll probably go along for the ride. I never cared much for the first few issues of WildCATS - skipped Stormwatch entirely… but between Sleeper, Planetary, the Authority, and Majestic, I’m beginning to wish I hadn’t, so I’d have all the backstory for the universe.

Richard Dragon #6 - Dragon. Shiva. Flashbacks. Killing. Shiva wants Dragon to stay on the dark side, apparently. Action art is excellent here.

Alpha Flight #9 - “Days of Future Present, Past Participle”. Love the title. Love the cover. Good stuff. Just keeps getting weirder.

Exiles #54 - a filler issue, mostly, but an interesting one. Hate the cover art though.

JLA : Classified #1- Grant Morrison. Ed McGuinness. Starting off well already. Nice to see the Ultramarines again, and the Silver-Age Batman touches were nice.

Sleeper (Season Two) #5 - Good background - I believe it’s entirely, 100% flashback, though.

Yes, Mr. Smarty-Pants, but I’ve read scant few super-hero books in the past ten years.

No, but many characters and concepts introduced in it spilled over into regular continuity.

So there IS a connection between the two?

Please don’t tell me that my sarcasm surprised you, too. You’ve been on the boards how long?

That’s true, and the Global Guardians was one of them.

Yes.

A) I hate what happened in Avengers 305. Not that it wasn’t extremely well done, but I didn’t like it. And I hate the new Avengers line-up so much that I’m seriously considering not even buying it. Wolverine? Luke Cage? The Avengers are all about BIG COSMIC MENACES. If I wanna gritty street-level super-teams featuring heros busting pimps and drug dealers, I’ll…I’ll…well, I don’t want gritty street-level super-teams busting pimps and drug dealers, so it’s not relevant, is it? Bleh.

B) Can someone explain what the hell happened in Superman/Batman? I thought that the whole “death of Kara” thing was faked to fool Darkseid so they wouldn’t come gunning for Kara before she was ready. We’d get a “Superman’s secret weapon” riff for a few years while she trained etc. Right? Wrong. A few days/weeks after the faked death, she re-reveals herself to the world…making the whole “phony death” think moot. Or does it? Am I missing something? Why did everyone go to such a huge effort to fake her death?

I did love that bit in Astonishing. “Two words.” And then Wolverine in the air. That’s Wheldon’s genius, letting the reader fill in the concept.

Okay, that’s it, I’m dropping Superman/Batman. I’ve hated the book ever since, like, #4, and I’ve basically just been buying it because of a) the Turner art, b) I wanted to see what was up with the new Supergirl, and c) Wonder Woman was in it. But I can’t take it anymore. This book is god-awful! I’m steering clear of Jeff Loeb for the forseeable future. Bleh!

Avengers was… odd, I guess. How has all of this stuff been going on for so long and Dr. Strange just now notices? I also hate the New Avengers lineup except for Jessica Drew apperantly being back in costume. Of course, I also don’t expect the “New Avengers” to last more than a couple years at the absolute most. I’m sure Marvel will pull some “The Original Avengers… BACK AGAIN!” stunt around the time they relaunch Thor or something.

I also got, er, Sonic the Hedgehog #142. I don’t think anyone else here reads it, because I’ve never seen anyone mention it, but I’ve been reading it more or less forever, and I still think it’s a very underrated book.

And these aren’t new, but I’ve been raiding a local used book store for their old Justice Leage and Justive League International/Europe back issues. They remain my favorite comics ever.

Oh, and totally random question time: Whatever happened to that Captain Marvel miniseries that Jeff Smith was supposedly working on that they announced, like, 3 years ago?

Yeah, I think I can.

Darkseid doesn’t get CNN.

Ergo, he’s not going to be aware of the fact that Supergirl survived, for quite some time.

Besides, the only thing we’re sure of is that she was unveiled to the superhero community. Not necessarily the world at large. (I don’t remember any cameras in the panel, but I could be wrong.) And, even if there were cameras - CNN.

Of course, this raises the question of how Darkseid knew she was there in the first place…

No story arc that gives me back the original Supergirl AND gives me Batman outwitting Darkseid is bad, in my book.

I don’t think **Candid ** has it. The point, from my perspective, was to allow Supergirl a choice. Currently, she had been thrust into the superhero role. Batman wanted to test her, Clark wanted an equal, Wonder Woman wanted another Amazon super-warrior, Darkseid wanted a super-weapon with which to rule the universe. All of these were Kara, none of these were her choice. So they set up a situation where Kara could effectively disappear, and re-emerge under her own volition. She could just be Kara, or she could be Supergirl (or both), and no one would be the wiser until she wanted to let that be known.

Sure, they could have waited a while - that may have been more interesting. Apparently they didn’t. I’m fine with that.
