A very light week for me. I only spent $24, and part of that was a comic box.
I suppose the big news is New Avengers #1. It certainly doesn’t suck… But I want to know more about this Sentry guy.

Superman/Batman: Again, very good. I really like this Pacheco guy. Also, a very good twist on the time-travelling situation. Where’ve I seen this Metron guy before? Was he one of the head schmoes in JLA/Avengers?
The Ultimates 2: Good to see this back on the rack. I’m getting less impressed with this sort of artwork - it seems like it’s trying too hard to be realistic. But it works with the dialogue and environment. I’ll definitely keep buying it.
The Intimates: I’m becoming a WS fan. This book is a lot of fun. LOTS of fun.
I was tempted to buy into the Intimates, but ultimately decided against it… I apparently didn’t get a Superman/Batman this week - either a pull-list screw-up, or a shipping screw-up.
Metron is one of the New Gods. He consideres himself niether good nor evil but his only goal is the pursuit of knowledge. His Moebius Chair can traverse time and space to help him in his quest. Although he is loyal to no faction, he finds himself allied with Highfather, Orion, the JLA, whoever (the good guys) from time to time because the end of the universe would prevent him from continuing to learn new things, so he helps out when some destructive evil (Darkseid, Mageddon, etc.) has a chance of destroying cretion.

A refreshingly light week. Just two books and Previews.
New Avengers: I knew he would do this to me. I’m all ready to read a rip-roaring adventure in the mighty Marvel manner, but I forgot it’s Bendis. First 3 issues will be set up. But man, what a set up! I love it when underrated villains get a believable overhaul. Electro can really do some damage when/if he puts his mind to it. My question is, why would you incarcerate villains IN THEIR COSTUMES? You’ve nullified their powers, but why let them wear armor? I saw two or three guys wearing helmets, for crying out loud. Gamera, if you really want to know about Sentry, you owe it to yourself to pick up the Sentry TPB. I’m not Jenkins biggest fan (stupid Spectacular Spider-Man) but Sentry and Inhumans are both very good. Long story short, Sentry was the first hero of the Silver Age. He was insanely powerful, though his powers are never actually explained. Ask me what he can do, and I can tell you he flies. Everything else is undefinable, but you get the feeling that he can do whatever he wants. However, in the early days of the Silver Age, he grew too powerful and became a danger to the MU and so he went into seclusion forcing everyone to forget he existed, himself included. I don’t want to give anything else away, but I will say that the ending of the book makes that last page in New Avengers kinda confusing
Ultimates 2: I’ve really missed this book. It appears that Hitch is going for a little less detail this time around. Or maybe it’s a different inker? Either way, I hope that means he’ll get his work in on time. If I were as late at my job, I’d be unemployed. Anyway, I really enjoyed this. Does anyone else get a split personality vibe out of Cap though? In costume, he’s a deadly killing machine. Out of costume, he’s an out of time gee-wilikers type. It also struck me funny that he’d be dating Janet. She’s Japanese, isn’t she? Just a year ago in Cap time, America was at war with Japan. Seems that Cap would find it hard to sleep with the enemy, but maybe he’s more open than I give him credit for.
I get Previews for free. My local comic shop apparently decided that, since I spend more than $200 each month there, it was in their interest to feed my addiction.
The Sentry TPB - Is it a retcon series? Like Triumph’s being an “original” member of the JLA? Or something that actually came out way-back-when?
They actually played it up like Sentry was a character that Stan Lee and a fictional artist developed back in the early 60’s but set aside and forgot. Old sketches and scripts were supposedlly found lying around. Wizard even had an article about this amazing discovery. Of course it was a hoax, but it was clever, I’ll give them that. You never had to have read Sentry since the pushed the Cosmic Reset button at the end of the series. But it’s one of my top 10 TPB/mini series/story arcs, I think.
Interesting. I’ll have to pick it up.
Oh, and in a bit of joyous comics news, I now have almost my entire collection listed in a spreadsheet! Woo! Still haven’t finished sorting all the details the way I want… and I can’t figure out how to get OpenOffice to total the massive number of rows in a column that I need it to, yet. But it’s progress!
I finally got Rebirth #2 (first printing, too) and was very, very impressed. Liking this series more than I thought I would, even if I really don’t want Hal to come back.
Also got Sonic the Hedgehog #143, too. Ken Penders is getting dangerously close to making the portions of the book he draws look like all-out furry porn. Needless to say, it squicks me out. He also ends everything anyone says with at least one exclamation point. Anyway, that’s just the backup, the main story was better.
I was going to pick up New Avengers, but I think I’ll wait for trades.
As long as * Sonic* is published by Starchie-Archie Comics, it’s not going there, my friend.
For refreshing humor, check out Kindergoth, from Bloodfyre. Witty, sassy, & yet, still kids. Best humor of the year, & very original. #4 just hit the stands, & it’s supposed to be a limited series, but my local dealer is talking about how well it sells. You can get back issues online.

Note to Mods: I am not connected in any way to the comic.
I had a light week too; only 7 titles, I think.
Which one came out this week, *Batman * or Detective? I mix them up a lot. Whichever one it was, it sucked. Very disappointing. Extra wordy and written like a high school sophomore would do it. Boring, boring, boring.
Batman/ Superman: Holy crap! I know it’s alternate universe stuff, but still.
Outsiders: You know, the stunt casting of John Walsh is actually interesting here. It makes sense that someone like him would get involved in a case like the one they’re working, even if it’s a little weird to have a real person in a comic book. If I meet John Walsh now, can he introduce me to Nightwing? Good cliffhanger too.
*Deadshot * #1: So far, I like it. It’s like if Frank Castle had some semblance of humanity and a sense of humor.
Ultimates 2 #1: I liked the first volume, but I didn’t love it. I like Ultimate Thor a lot though, and this seems to be off to a good start.
New Avengers #1: I dug it. I love Bendis’ *Daredevil * and The Pulse, so having his Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, Luke Cage and everyone in this issue is cool. I’m not sure Spidey should or would be an Avenger, and Wolverine’s a weird choice too, bt I’m enjoying this so far.
Doc Frankenstein #1: This week’s weird, fun find. It’s written by the Wachowski Brothers. Yes, the *Matrix * guys. I’m not their biggest fan, but I recommend giving this one a look-see. What if Frankenstein’s monster survived his trip to the Arctic and decided to devote his life to protecting people and learning how to be human? What if it was weird and really entertaining? What if, because his very existence might be seen as an affront to the Lord, the Church developed its own military unit to try and take him out? This book was way more fun than it should have been, like We3. It reminded me of a Garth Ennis book. The publisher is called Burlyman Entertainment; I think the W. Brothers own it.
I suspect Spidey and Logan will be “Avengers” the way Batman and Superman were JSA members back in the day.
Remember the big Avengers reboot around issue #300? Reed, Sue, Gilgamesh and Cap in a funny suit? Things were back to normal within four months.
I’m hoping Spidey and Wolverine will be Avengers like the Hulk was an Avenger. Put them in at the beginning because they’re big names to draw in the fans, then dump them and ignore that they ever were members.
He was killing Germans; I don’t think Cap ever fought in the Pacific theater. Though he seems a bit more nationalistic than the core universe Cap, that doesn’t necessarily make him racist.
She’s certainly Asian, but I don’t remember anything idenifying her specific ethnicity. Whatever it is, she’s also (IIRC) an American, which, for Cap, would override any other concerns.
This version of Cap is quite conservative in his values, which include the idea that a man doesn’t hit a woman. His relationship with Wasp began with him in the role of protector / avenger, a relationship that can easily turn into a romantic one.
Like Batman?
Outsiders - I have to disagree. I hate the very notion of stunt-casting a real celebrity in a situation like this. This seems like an excuse not to write an interesting story for three months.
Ultimates 2 - I’m very glad they’re dealing with Thor’s possible insanity. The exchange between Banner and Pym made me laugh out loud. (“How long have you been waiting to say that?” “Twenty minutes.”)
Oh no, this is something I must own! Does this publisher usually put out TPBs, or am I stuck with singles?
Where do you find these indie gems?!

Normally I’d agree, but in this case he’s *barely * in it. I don’t see why they don’t just have a Walsh-like character instead, but whatever. It’s a pretty good story so far, so I don’t really care enough to be miffed by it. Maybe my standards for acceptable entertainment were lowered after I caught an episode of the WB’s The Mountain a few weeks ago. It was beyond awful.
Deadshot: Great first issue. Loving the art. I also like the new costume, though I don’t think the old one needed to be replaced – it was cool and unique. I agree with Firebug: I always did kinda think that Deadshot was too “white trash” to have come from such a hoity-toity background. Oh well, maybe that’s the image he chooses to display.
Not sure if this needs to be in a spoiler box, but
anyone wanna bet that the kid turns out NOT to be Floyd’s?
Fallen Angel: Wonderful as always. This read very much like a final issue, and I got a bit choked up at the end. Then I turned the page and saw the “next issue” blurb and breathed a sigh of relief. (I later read in Comic Shop News that #18 actually was supposed to be the last, but a sudden spike in sales won her at least two more issues).
Outsiders: I’m in the “celebrity guest stars in comics are cheesy” camp, but this one’s not intolerable. The art’s a little rough for my liking. All in all I’m neutral about this storyline.
Superman/Batman: Typical issue of S/B, kinda fluffy but entertaining enough as long as you don’t think too much about anything. Enjoyed seeing the 1970’s version of the Legion – which is MY Legion, and anything else is a pale substitute (I am looking forward to the reboot, though).
What are the spoiler rules for these weekly comic discussions, anyway?
I say spoil away, but put the title at the front of the paragraph to warn people off who don’t want to know. Otherwise, this is where I get my information for all the other titles I don’t have the money to spend on, and eagerly seek spoilers out.
