Weekly Comic Book Discussion 9/1/2005

Last but not least, Ex Machina, which was good as always.

I also mistakenly got the last issue of Adventures of Superman - because there was a new one, and the rack had the little ‘New’ sticker, but apparently, the new issue was sold out. Sigh.

I also got three Tank Girl TPBs.

Working on my backlog from the past few weeks…general comments about some of them…no idea what’s this week, what’s last week, and what’s the week before.

Legion 9: Pretty good story. Hillarious lettercolumn. I’m not quite following why everyone thinks IK must have tipped Brainy off, but, hey, whatever…nobody said they were wholey rational.

Day of Vengeance 5: Black Alice is officially my favourite superhero, costume-wise, now. Not so happy with the halfed Dr Fate mask from the flashback, but the Zatanna costume, and Spectre’s cloak…they worked.

As to the story itself - I liked Shazam’s conversation with Billy - and, even more so, Nightshade talking with Billy and Lori - ‘So, you were a couple.’ ‘What? No! Yech!’ The results of their plan playing out were…well, they shouldn’t have been unexpected, but…d’oh!

Villains United 4: A positive gold-mine of one-liners.

A select selection:

Dr Psycho: ‘Yes, Luthor, shall we all hold hands and sing campfire songs? Because I’d be willing to learn some.’

Ragdoll: ‘It’s beautiful. An odiferous masterpiece.’

Deadshot: ‘Don’t shoot my cat-buddy. He already got ate by a monkey once.’

Paradaemon: ‘Death in a stupid gesture. It’s a dream I have.’

Aside from that, the story’s continuing apace. Looks like the showdown’s going to be messier and less one-sided than it looked, though, after this one. I think Ches’s barking up the wrong tree with her accusations of treason, but, hey, she’s Cheshire, I don’t really expect better from her. I’m wondering if the baby she wanted Catman to give her (that phrasing never fails to crack me up for some reason…) is a replacement for when Lian inevetably gets blowed up.

I’m wondering if Teth-Adam knew what the plan for that base was. I’m thinking no - I don’t think he’d stand for it. I’m also thinking the rest of the Society’s inner circle will regret it when he finds out what was being planned there.

Other than those, I’ve been continuing with my rereadings of old Legion stories…

Gods, I can’t wait until I hit the point where Cos ditches that Cockrum/Grell monstrosity of a costume.
