Hi, I’m Idle Thoughts for anyone who doesn’t already know who I am.
As a mod of the Game Room, I had been thinking of doing a weekly giveaway for awhile now, in which I will give away a fairly big* game once a week, in a raffle that goes on 2-3 days each time.
Just to be clear, though, I’m doing this on my own, out of my own hearts kindness. It’s not associated in any official way with the Straight Dope Message Board or those who own it…although I did get permission from the higher ups than I to make and sticky these topics.
Here’s how they will work, fairly simple:
Every week I will create a topic and say what game I’m giving away. I will also give the details about it (what it’s playable on, pretty much…I.E. Steam, Origin, Desura).
Anyone who is interested can reply and put their name into the raffle.
At the end of two days, I will use random.org to pick a winner of everyone who expressed interest to enter.
If only one person entered, that person will get it without a raffle being held.
If nobody enters, then…ah well, the idea wasn’t popular and it won’t be a weekly thing.
Important: To avoid certain people who sign up for message boards just to get free keys, I will require a minimum of 20 posts and having had been a member for at least a month for anyone who wants to enter these raffles. Registering and making 20 posts in the same day just to enter will not work/be allowed.
*“Big” is obviously a relative term. I will try to make the giveaways be games that are pretty well-known, popular, and heard of, though.
This first one is for Dead Space 3.
It will be a key given to the winner (in PM) for ORIGIN. That is located here for free download. You MUST have Origin installed to play it.
If interested in this game, just post in here. I will hold the raffle for the winner on Wednesday, September 18th at about 4pm (PST).
Yeah, not on steam (yet), although Dead Space 1 and 2 are if you haven’t played them already.
But Origin is free and if you download it, you’ll get the free key too (as long as you win), so you should have no problems playing it on there (if you don’t mind Origin).
Likewise - I read Game Room several times per day and I just now noticed this thread. Maybe try a non-sticky thread for the next game, see if there’s more replies?
If people pay attention to the deal threads, they’ll realize that you could hop on these deals for a buck during the humble bundles, or sometimes a few bucks. For example if you go to the humble bundle page right now, you’ll notice you can get a few great games for a buck, or way more for 5 bucks (although of course I recommend paying more. “I cheaped out on charities and cool indie devs! HAHAHA!” is pretty lame.) I suspect we’ll see yet another thread or several concerning some of these games in a few weeks.
At least I think we should move to one running thread for giveaways.
I won’t be in on this one, but I’m definitely up for it if the right game comes up. In fact, I have a few Steam games that came with bundles that I don’t want.
Idle, I’m up for giving games away on Steam if you need someone to give one some week.
I would need some directions on how to give away a steam game, though.
