Graduated 1986, weighed 133 lbs. Now weigh 154 lbs. That makes me a sprightly 28 years old. I like it!
I like your reasoning; in that case, I’m only 38.
I was a fat kid and a fat teenager. I passed 200 lb in 10th grade and have never been below that since. I don’t recall what I weighed when I graduated, maybe 220 or so, maybe more. Eleven years after I graduated I suffered a heart attack and lost down to 206 (and stopped smoking). Then I put it all back on and then some and got up to 281 ten years ago (that’s 47 years after I graduated) and then my blood sugar went up and I sent on a diet and lost 30 lb. Then I gained about 10 lb to 259 and my blood sugar hit 8.1 (= 130 in US measure). I was put on metformin, which has weight loss as a side-effect. Two years later I was down to 240 and stuck there. Then about 7 months, I adopted a regime of no snacking. Since my regular meals were generally reasonable, that made a difference and I have lost at least 20 lb. Currently, I am at 218 and not snacking. I hope to continue this forever, although I expect the weight loss will stop (it has already slowed significantly), but that’s OK. I am no longer obese and don’t expect to live forever in any case. Who could have imagined that I would survive a heart attack for 46 years?
Bottom line: Probably I weigh less than at HS graduation, but not a lot less.
Yeah…I’m thinking that this was misinterpreted by the OP. People may on average gain two pounds a year, but I don’t think it’s advice unless it’s to suggest you avoid gaining any more than that.
Anyway, I graduated from high school 16 years ago and weighed 130 pounds. I do not weigh as much as 162 pounds now, despite putting on a lot of muscle since then.
I think it’d also be interesting to know how much your waistline has swelled since graduation. I’d suggest clothing sizes, but those have all migrated over the years, so they wouldn’t show much of anything. My waist is 1.5" thicker then when I graduated high school, ftr.
I was a 29" for years, now 32". On my way down to 30" though, hopefully.
Graduated 8 years ago, and am 2 lbs lighter as a result.
I sure wish it was only 2 pounds per year for me.
I graduated high school in 2003. I was planning on joining the Marine Corps so I had spent that entire year exercising to prepare for basic, making me graduate at 180 pounds of solid muscle. (I was 220 pounds of chub prior to that year) I’m at ~240 pounds now and working on dropping it. Worst was 280 pounds about 2 years ago.
Lucky you!
I’ve gained 35 pounds since high school. Considering I came out of high school looking like a concentration camp inmate, this is a good thing.
I graduated 28 years ago, at 145 pounds (I was a stick). I’m currently at 180; according to that rule-of-thumb, I’d be “expected” to be 201.
However, I’m now considerably lighter than I was 8 years ago, when I’d topped out at around 225. Back then, I was sedentary; now, I’m active. (Also, back then I was just fat; now, I’m managing diabetes, but that’s another story. )
When I graduated high school 26 years ago (yikes) I weighed ~205lbs. When I left my freshman year of college (a miserable time) I think I was between 250-275. Three years ago, ~345. Now I’m between 180-185.
Graduated hich school at 185 lbs. 23 years later I weighed myself today and 90 kg. A little quick math says that is 198 lbs. A bit more math says that is just a shade over half a pound a year.
That’s about right. Graduated five years ago, and I weigh about ten pounds more (175 instead of 165.) Most of the gain is recent, though; I think I lost the Freshman Fifteen.
I weigh a lot more than I did in high school, but I was really, really, really skinny, like 127 pounds going in to my senior year. I ran cross country and was built like a whippet, and didn’t really get broad across the chest and shoulders until probably 19 or 20. I’m right at 215 pounds now, so I guess I’ve gained almost 90 pounds since high school, but you’d never guess it to look at me.
