weight gain

I know this isn’t a problem for many people, but I really am trying to gain weight. I have been thin all my life(and back then, it wasn’t IN). I am 5’10" and weigh 120 lbs.
Somebody out there is gotta give me suggestions on what to eat, when, how often, the foods that’ll do it. Help. Thanks.

Beer usually does the trick…

Start eating a lot of cheese in addition to what you normally eat. I went from 150 lbs to 200 in about 6 months simply by adding cheese to my diet.

I know you don’t like me, but I still like you. I just find you to be a little confused.

I saw your picture peaches, you are one hot babe! Wowza, I shall never wash my eyes again. If you really want to gain weight, try the gym, at least that way youll put it in the right place. Seems like you already have it in the right places

I used to drink Weight-Gain. You drink it mixed with milk three times a day. They usually have it behind the counter at pharmacies. Ask your local pharmacist about it.

How old are you by the way? I ask because as you get older, your metabolism changes. Until I was about 30 years old, I could eat anything and everything and not gain a pound. I wore a size O (I am 5’5"). In the last couple years my body has changed and I find I have to watch what I eat. No more cheeseburgers everyday. I “ballooned” to 130 lbs (up to a size 6) but haved worked my way back down to 116 lbs in the last couple of months.

Srlcub, Yes I like you. Now I must try beer and cheese, eh?
hmmmm, sounds like a man watching the Superbowl!
Yes, I am drinking weight gain powder(though I hate milk, I’m making an exception here).
I am 41, and Did gain some weight after I gave birth 7 years ago, but seem to have lost some. Working out sounds like a good idea, I dont exactly want a pot belly…
I hate beer though, maybe a glass of wine(small) before dinner?
Keep the good ideas coming…

Try lifting weights. Not only will you almost certainly gain some weight, the weight you gain will be nice firm muscles. It’s pretty easy & not too expensive to get a good set of hand weights from Sears or Target, and they’re really all you need.

How in the world do you find clothes that fit correctly? I mean, as tall as you are, you gotta have a hard time find pants that are long enough and also in a small enough size.

I know how hard it is. I sympathize with you. How about getting a personal trainer and working on your muscle mass? Nothing grotesque, just “building up” a little.

I’ve had this problem and I feel your pain. And have you noticed how all and sundry feel free to heap abuse on your skinny frame, just cause you’re thin?

I gained 7 lbs over six weeks by meeting a friend after work for a beer everyday. I don’t normally drink, and I don’t like beer. It was light beer, from a draft glass and sometimes I could only choke back 1/2 of it.

But you know what? Of all the suggestions I received, it worked. My friend who thought of this has a big ole beer belly.

I was eating hordes of cheese (which I adore), and sweets ( which I live for), and carbs to no avail.

Beer ! Who’d have thought? Worked for me. You new motto should be, “Got Beer?”

ha! Beer is probably better for you than milk. I am an avowed milk disliker. I dont believe people need it or should drink it!
But wouldn’t working out make me burn a lot more calories?

Mayonnaise. As much as you can stand. Eat it with anything.

I had a friend who was 6’6" and weighed about 160lbs. We put ten pounds of pure fat on him in one week with the Mayonnaise diet. His secret? Bologna and cheese sandwiches. About 1/4 cup of mayo on each.

As a person who has battled my weight all my life, I am 6’0" and 280 pounds, it seems the obvious thing is that you eat more and more often. I guess maybe thin people just find it hard putting food down so that isn’t a viable option but I never understood it. I do everything I can to limit myself to the amount of food I do eat. If I really ate everytime I wanted to I would weight much, much more. Obviously I am no help to this thread, but SqlCub or elbows suggestion on how to supplement your diet marginally without you feeling you are eating more (which I just assume is not something easy for you to do) might be something you want to try.

You might want to have your thyroid checked. Weight loss or trouble gaining weight is sometimes a symptom of hyperthyroid. (Other problems are sleeplessness, rapid heartrate and, sometimes, swelling in your throat (goiter.)

Okay. So far, we’ve got cheese, beer, mayonnaise.
How about times? A big breakfast? Or eating right before bed? I do, a piece of chocolate cake, every night before bed. With water.

I think milk is alright. I personally wouldn’t want to do any wieght gaining drinks because I believe that they would be loaded with fat. If you really want to gain a lot of weight and have a decent amount of it be muscle mass the easy way, talk to your doctor about being given a testosterone supplement. Make sure to read any literature regarding the side effects and if you would be willing to live with them. I believe there is an over the counter one called “Andro fuel” that has side effects such as hair growth and weight gain. Supposedly it is muscle.

I found it easier to modify your diet to gain weight without eating more as was pointed out. I did not eat cheese until I was 17. I would even scrape it off the pizza and eat sauce bread. Anyway, make lasagna and add more cheese, make queso and chips, eat Mexican and Italian food (both are fattening), eat a lot of carbohydrates. If you change your diet to things that will make you gain weight like that, you will gain the weight without eating so much you feel nautious afterwards.

I’ve got the same problem, and nothing works for me. I eat 4-5 meals a day (small because I have a small stomach), loaded with cheese (I’m a vegetarian) and carbohydrates (and beer). No luck. Even weight-training only made me lighter.

God I sound like a troll.

Then I moved to Germany and gained 20lbs in 3 years. It makes no sense to me, since Germans themselves seem to be quite thin & fit. I guess it doesn’t help that I stuff myself with all the pastries and cakes I can eat, since I’m only going to be here for two more years.

Why, if you are healthy, do you want to gain weight? Are people making you uncomfortable about being thin?

And I’ve got to second the beer, my husband has been here two years, and gained 20lbs all of it beer.

Sure, eat before you go to sleep then your metabolism slows down so you’re more likely to gain then. Don’t smoke or drink coffee as those speed up your metabolism.

You should take it easy on the cholesterol. You don’t want your heart to gain weight, too.

Thanks. Just bought some bologna and mayo today. Also will try to have not only a bologna sandwich once a d ay, but also peanut butter and jelly, too.
Yah, I think I don’t look good enough at this weight.
I will report back in 2 months to let you know how much I’ve gained.
