Weight Loss Surgery

I know there have been threads on this subject before–heck, I even started one of them myself! But I wanted to know about a specific kind, called biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (or just duodenal switch). Have any of you Dopers had this particular WLS, and if so, were you pleased with the results? How was recovery and were there any complications? Did insurance pick up the tab, or were there problems with that?

See, I decided against having the gastric bypass (the RNY surgery), but this one at least allows you to have a more normal diet, so I’m once again contemplating it. I am planning on attending a seminar Feb. 1 to find out more, but I thought my fellow Dopers might have some helpful input!

Thanks!

Opalcat had the BPD a little over two years ago. It’s one I’m considering if I cannot get the weight off myself and ever get insurance coverage again.

Here’s the page Opal has up about her surgery. I know she is more than happy to discuss it with anyone who is contemplating the surgery.

Even though I went with a RnY, opalcat’s input was greatly appreciated, and her photo log of her weightloss was one of the many contributing factors that helped me make my decision to have the surgery. I have tried to create my own (personal) photo log, but it’s not as dramatic since I’m fully dressed…should have worn something more revealing!

Chanteuse:

I had RNY in November of 2004; an invaluable research tool is www.obesityhelp.com

They have information on all types of surgeries, along with message boards for general questions & specific questions regarding BPD/BD.

Good luck with your journey!
