8.2 lbs is my total weight loss amount. I’m down to 164.6 lbs. - only 8.8 lbs left in my initial 10% weight loss goal.
Now it gets interesting. Next week I start jury duty and I’m wondering if I’ll make a meeting. There are none around the town where I’ll be stuck for two weeks so I’m just hoping I’ll make it back home before the last meeting in my area (7 PM).
I’m still feeling good and am less hungry as the days pass.
A great big congratulations goes out to Canthearya!! Way to go! Just keep drinking that water and counting those points! (I assume you’re doing the “1-2-3”)
I belonged to a weight loss group a few years ago. I lost 19 pounds and was pleased with the results, but I eventually strayed from my eating plan because it was too restrictive. (Well, actually the plan was not restrictive, it is just that I am such a fussy eater that I didn’t like half the foods I could eat.) Also, my plan was WAAY expensive.
I have heard a lot of great things about Weight Watchers. How expensive is it? What are the meetings for and do you really have to go? I really don’t need meetings for motivation. I’d like to lose 15 pounds.
I joined Weight Watchers June 29. I was going to start a thread about it, but I never got around to it
My first week I only lost 2 pounds, so this week I’m trying to stay towards the low end of my point scale. My husband joined too, and he lost 4.5 his first week. Bastard

Yeah - I’m thinking about dieting myself …
anyone suggest a good diet?
TIME ELAPSED SINCE I QUIT EATING:
One month, one week, four days, 18 hours, 0 minutes and 50 seconds.
1670 snacks not eaten, saving $907.75.
Life saved through not polluting my body with cholesterol: 5 days, 19 hours, 10 minutes.
That is great, and congrats to all of you out there who have tried to lose weight and succeeded. It is really hard to lose weight, especially if you have had it for a long time.
Keep up the great work! You have tons of reasons to be proud!
pLt: One of the best ways to lose weight is to look at when you eat and how much. Depending on how mush you want to lose joining a gym (and using it) along with a few little tricks can help you lose weight without really dieting. I have six little rules that I tell my clients (I am a fitness person in a gym):
Don’t eat after dinner. If you must, have fruit.
Don’t eat to being stuffed, fill up your belly and then stop. Never get that thanksgiving dinner feeling.
Cut down on alchol consumption. (this won’t apply to all of you)
Eat more veggies at dinner than carbs or protein. Still eat the others because you need it, but have more veggies.
Snack on fruit and veggies, but when you really need a treat, have one. If you deprive yourself you will likely relapse and eat two tonnes of ice cream in a sitting.
Keep up your gym membership. 40 minutes of cardio with your heart rate in your target area 3 to 4 times a week. (if that confuses you ask at your gym)
I swear this works, but you have to do it. you can’t just do half of it. Good Luck
Canthearya and BlueTwylight, congratulations! I’m very proud of both of you. I joined WW back in April and just got my 25lb star/magnet thing last week, so I know it can be rough sometimes. Keep up the good work and keep us all posted!
I’ll definitely try that …
no-one even snickered at my signature joke …disappointed

Well, I was not called up for jury duty today or tomorrow. They called groups 1-7 for today and groups 8-18 for tomorrow - I’m guessing I’ll get called for Wednesday because I’m in group 29. I’m happy because I get to weigh in at my favorite time - first thing in the morning tomorrow at work. Yay!
Congratulations, Blue Twylight and husband! You should ask one of your leaders about staying toward the low end of your points… from what I’ve heard it can backfire on you and you’ll gain instead of losing. Slow and steady wins the race in the weight-losing arena. The longer it takes you to lose the weight, the longer it will stay off.

If I recall correctly, it’s $24.95 to start and $9.95 a week from then on. The best thing about Weight Watchers is that they don’t make you use (and pay for) their food. You truly can eat whatever you want as long as you stick to your point range. It is kinda sneaky because (if you’re smart) you end up eating healthy food anyway. You realize that having a huge salad with light dressing and cheese for 3 points will keep you full longer than Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (4 points) will. This program has brought home to me the fact that I can talk myself into anything. Instead of grabbing a bag of chips I really want an orange because I know it’s better for me and it does keep me full longer.
The meetings are 30 minutes long. They’re for asking questions and learning about the topic of the week. You don’t have to go to the meetings, but I would really recommend it. You see all weight ranges in the meetings… There are people who have been at their goal for years who still show up. The leaders and members are so helpful - they have great recommendations for sticking to the plan and eating low-point foods that keep you full longer. I’ve only been going to meetings for a couple weeks and have already made friends.
El Hubbo and I went to the Basilica Block Party this weekend to see Train and Big Head Todd. It was a fantastic evening. I wore a cute olive green mini-dress (like overall shorts but a dress) and felt comfortable all night. Just a little weight loss makes such a difference in my attitude. I think it was Viktor Frankl who said (paraphrasing), “The world is as you perceive it to be.” I perceive my world as a wonderful place when I’m not obsessing about my weight.
Thanks for the congrats everyone - if this thread is anywhere near the top tomorrow night, I’ll just add to it.
Hi – I really don’t know any of you folks in this thread, but I’ve been part of SDMB (on and off) since its inception, and even back in the old AOL days.
I congratulate you on your wieght loss via WW.
I joined last November 1. I’ve lost 45 pounds.
I needed to lose wieght for health reasons. I’ve struggled for years. But I love the WW “1-2-3” program for the accountablity at the weekly meetings, and the fact you can eat “real food” and not screw up your family meal planning.
I needed a change in the way I ate, and lived. WW has helped me do something that I foresee will be a part of my life from here on out.
I think I am going to join tomorrow. There is an office not too far from my house. I hope it works for me as well as it does for everyone else. I don’t have a lot to lose, and I’ll be so happy to get back into my size 5!
I’m really glad that you are working toward a goal you have set yourself but I have a LOT of reservations about the WW program.
Not to take away one IOTA of congrats and salutations to you for doing what you want to do; however, I fault their program.
This isn’t anything new to those who have seen me around before but WW puts a lot on WEIGHT. They don’t take into account a lot of other very important statistics. Like bone build. Like muscle build.
I think that what you are doing is great and I want to give you a big hug but please, PLEASE don’t become one of those folks that thinks it’s all about weight. It really isn’t. You can be 5’5" and weigh 170 and totally kick my ass. Because the bulk of your weight is muscle.
I’m gonna leave it at that because I know a bunch of folks are gonna come in here and rip me a new one for pointing this out. Saying I’m not supportive. I am. Really. Just be sure that the weight you are losing is fat, not protein (muscles) or water (since many won’t drink enough to keep hydrated because they have that potentially “embarrassing” weigh-in).
Just be very healthy in your weight loss. Not just looking at the scale and thinking you’re doing well when you might very well be really hurting yourself in the long run. Eat less, drink more water, and exercise more.
I just wanted to add that the cost differs from area to area. In my area it is $30 to start and $11/week. We have people come to our meetings while they are visiting friends and such and they are shocked that it costs more per meeting here than it does where they live. Anyone who is planning to go should call first to check on the prices.
Good one, evilbeth! Thanks for letting everyone know.
Byz, thank you for your concern. WW advises you to drink at least 48 oz. of water per day and I do. They say that the more water you drink, the less you retain. Makes sense to me. If your body knows it’s going to be fully hydrated, there’s no reason for it to retain water, right? As far as exercise goes, they’re not focusing on exercise at all for this initial “Lose 10%” program. Once I’ve lost my 10%, I believe they’ll talk to me about exercise. Frankly, I like this approach a lot. In the past I’ve tried doing everything at once and have gotten burned out. I like this step-by-step approach.

That’s exactly what I’m doing, but with help this time.
