Weight Watchers Week One: 5 Pounds Gone!

Today I completed my first week as a Weight Watcher. I lost five pounds and I’m feelin’ good!

Any other Weight Watchers out there?

I know there are others out there trying to lose weight, but I’ll let them step up and talk, or not. Up to them.

I am facing the same difficult task of gaining weight.

::ducks as beer cans and other sharp objects fly at him::

Yes, I know it seems really easy to gain weight. For some people it is. Thing is that my metabolism is suchthat two hours after I eat, unless it’s pure fat I’ve used up the energy in the food. Right now I’m about 5’10" and roughly 160. When I entered high school I was all of 5’4" and 85 lbs. I am not kidding. I ate everything in sight and played football, and by the end of the term (three months) I had gained 20 lbs. Not fat.

So right now I’m trying to get up to 180 lbs, which would put me at a very solid build. When I get pictures taken I’ll try to put them up on my webpage, but as of yet there isn’t anything to put up that y’all haven’t seen.

Sorry if this is sort of against the idea of the thread, but I know as many people who are trying to gain weight as I do those who are trying to lose it.

Canthearya, if you don’t mind me asking, why are you in the process of losing weight? Why do you want to weigh less?

Canthearya, way to go! May your trip to your goal weight be a smooth one. I will be sending good thoughts your way

Hey punha:

I am 5’5" and I now weigh 167.8 pounds. The healthy weight range for my height is 120-144 pounds. I’m shooting for 130 right now but will see how I feel once I get down in that area.

Why do I want to lose weight?

Because I’m unhealthy at this weight.
Because I’m uncomfortable in my clothes.
Because I want to be able to run without pain.

Congratulations, ** Canty!! ** I’ve never been to Weight Watchers, but I’ve always heard great things about their program. Keep us up to date on how you’re doing!

5 lbs is a little steep Canth. 2 lbs a week is better. Congrats, though. I only mention the lbs because you may level off to that soon & you shouldn’t get discouraged.

That stuff sure tastes better than Jenny Craig, right?

Five pounds the first week on WW isn’t out of the ordinary; but if someone were to keep losing five pounds every week, then there would be cause to worry. WW tells members that they probably will lose more during the first week than would normally be healthy because their bodies are adjusting to the lower-calorie, nutritionally balanced diet.

Congrats CHY - isn’t WW the best? Don’t get depressed when your weight loss levels out to a normal pound or two a week - just hang in there. Slow and steady wins the race.

It sounds cliché, but the WW program really is a “live-it,” not a diet.

I am also trying to lose weight, and I hit that goddam plateau.

I’m “eating more sensibly” (as opposed to a “diet”) and going to the gym 3x a week, and I cannot lose one more goddam pound! I lost five the first month or two, and I want to lose another ten—I am tempted to do a do-it-yourself lipo with a letter-opener and my vacuum cleaner . . .

Goddam slow-as-Karo-syrup metabolism. Sucks.

. . . SonofaBITCH.

Just got back from the gym, and I’ve GAINED two pounds, defying all known laws of physics (no, I’m not working out enough for the “muscle weighs more than fat” theory to hold).

That’s it—I do not eat one more BITE till I get down to 125–30 pounds. I’ll just pretend I’m in the IRA or I’m a Suffragette or something. Anyone wanna sponser me, like the smoking threads? “Today I will not eat for _________?”

SonofaBITCH.

I think you should feel very proud of your weight loss. I am a lifetime member of WW. I have lost over 60 pounds. I also work for them as a receptionist. Generally speaking people loose the most weight the first week and then it begins to level off. Everyone’s body is different. I lost 6 pounds my first week and then I developed a weigth loss pattern. One week I would loose 1 or so and the next I would loose anywhere from 2 to 3. The best way to approach weight watchers is to realize that it is not a diet. It is a healthy eating program and you will follow the program for the rest of your life if you want to maintain your weight loss. I lost my weight in about nine months and I have kept it off for almost a year. Also remember that a loss is a loss no matter how big or small. If you stick with it, keep a journal, drink lots of water and walk for about 20 min. a day you will do great!! Keep up the good work!!!

Eve I have 2 words for you: WATER WEIGHT. You can reasonably expect to gain 2-5 lbs a month even when working out. Should be gone plus any extra loss in a week or so.

Cant way to go! And be sure to read Oprah’s bood “Make the Connection” if you haven’t yet, it has a lot of great info and motivation in it. The guy who wrote it with her is an exercise physiologist, so he knows what he’s talking about. (Try not to be too bummed out that Oprah is fat again, lol…Girlfriend has some MAJOR food issues!)

I’ve been warned that 5 pounds is a lot. With my highly optimistic nature I really need to keep that in mind and not get discouraged when I don’t lose as much by my next weigh-in.

I feel like my higher power has been preparing me for this. I’ve been cooking low fat for years (but eating waaaay too many portions) and I’m at the age where I’ve finally realized that telling everyone about a project, no matter how excited I am about it, can take the wind out of my sails. I’m keeping the excitement of my membership and success to myself, El Hubbo, y’all and a very close friend.

You guys can’t see me so I won’t get discouraged by you. I realized that today in my meeting - if I were online with all the people in that room, none of them would intimidate me. IRL, I’m intimidated.

But happy!

Wishing you the best, Rachelle.

I had a close call with a cyst a couple of weeks ago, but I turned out OK. I hope and pray the same happens for you.

Argh. This posted to thread somehow.

Anywho, to answer the OP, I’ve never really tried Weight Watchers. I’ve hovered around 195-200 for the last several years.

Congrats, Canhthearya!

Cant

I found the five pounds you lost! I’ll just carry them around for a while, shall I?

But seriously folks … I’m doing Weight Watchers too. They have a very convenient “at work” program here. Progress has been slow but I’m sticking with it. My goal is to see my feet again. I miss them!

Congratulations!
Weight Watchers is really the best program available. I have been a member for years, but since I moved away from NY in October, I have let my membership lapse. Hey, if I go join, can I be your weight loss buddy? Maybe we could start a thread or something  How about it?
Rose

If you go to the gym, you make muscles! Newsflash, muscles weigh more than fat.

Walking is great.

In the winter, I put on fat to stay warm in the pacific ocean when surfing, in summer, take it off.

Blue Twylight, yeah!

Why don’t you start the thread when you join back up? I hereby promise to post at least once a week.

Canthearya,

I am so glad you were able to lose that much weight so quickly. Now, will you please come get it because every blasted ounce found it’s way to my house !

Congrats my friend,

Awww, Aye

Now that I have your undivided attention, please direct me to the thread which explains how you can bend minds with your spoon… I’ve been dyin’ to know!
