Weighted blanket discussion

:frowning: Outside night temps here are still around 80.

What weight did you get for your blanket?

Yeah, here, too. Although I think it got done to 75 last night. I would sweat into nothing but a puddle with something that heavy on me. I move around a lot, too, and I’d purely hate feeling pinned down like that.

Really interesting to read other people’s experiences!

In the summer I use an old, threadbare hospital blanket (so very light to begin with), or a sheet (untucked), or…nothing. I can’t imagine all of those covers on me, unless maybe I was sleeping outside…in the middle of a cold snap…in winter.

Vanilla, chocolate & all that.

I use a top sheet under my weighted blanked (25 lb). The sheet adds a little bit of coolness, but I also run the AC at night so my room is cool. Not sure I could handle the weight if the room was hot.

I work for a public library. We have a small room that doubles as meeting space/meditation/need time alone, etc. I do not meditate, but one day about a month ago I went in there to take a nap. I looked around and saw what I had ignored in a number of emails that had gone out in the last few months about his new space. I found the weighted blanket and used it simply because I like to have something over me when I sleep whether I’m cold or not. It felt (as expected) heavy, and to me, uncomfortable. I did get a short nap in even though it felt like I was being crushed.

My blanket is 12#. I read that you should get one that’s about 10% of your weight. I don’t weigh 120# (I wish) but the next one up was 15#. I way around 135#. I thought that the 15# blanket might be too heavy and that I should start out with the lighter one. So far it seems perfect.

If our outside temps were 80 at night there would be no way I’d be able to sleep under the weighted blanket! Even at 55 degrees for an outside temp, I use a window fan. We don’t have air conditioning.

I use a hand-crocheted afghan for my weighted blanket (gifted from my step mom) in the winter and a lighter fake wool styled blanket for the summer. My wife prefers a cool room to sleep but I’d rather swelter when I sleep. Switching between these two as needed does the trick.
