I’ll bet you do. I’d miss that, too. Sure hope the rest period does the trick and the two of you are reunited soon in a way sure to make you both much happier.
Gatopescado, I will consider myself fortunate to be one who was able to view your youtube vid before it was removed. Your doxies are adorable and obviously very athletic. I’ll bet they keep things quite lively at your place. ![]()
BigT, I’ve never been able to completely break Lewis of the jumping habit, either, though I’m still trying even after 9 years. It is so hard on them yet so ingrained. Lewis is a fairly docile doxie, not vigilant. I mean, he’ll wake up and give a half-assed bark once I’ve answered the door (“Huh? Someone’s here?”), so I can imagine it’s much more challenging with yours, who sounds quite curious.
Lewis only gets worked up once he realizes the visitor is one of his many “aunties.” Then he frisks with joy and makes it clear that if I were to shuffle off this mortal coil and leave him to fend for himself, ain’t no big thang. ![]()
And at least I know that if something happened to ME Nathan would be cared for. There are several friends at the dog park who would take him, and I actually have instructions for my family on how to contact them.
This is Nathan’s second day in the cage. He cries when I come home, wanting out. I will let him out three times a day. Just before I leave for work, as soon as I come home from work, and before I go to bed. I think Nathan already knows what the take out times are for, and he’s kind of resisting going back in. Showing even a little spirit is a good thing, right?
Yes. ![]()
I have forgotten how long he will be crated.
One to three weeks.
He probably feels like I did when I had to rest my leg by using crutches for a month, poor guy.
Yes, showing spirit is always good. Does he still show reluctance on the stairs?
When’s his next checkup?
If it were me, I’d get an air mattress and put it on the floor by his kennel. At the next check up, if he were improving, I’d ask the vet about allowing Nathan out at night, just in that room with your mattress on the floor, and all the chairs and bed blocked off so there was no possible jumping.
Merneith, you meant for me to be on the air mattress, right, so I can sleep by him?
That’s a good idea though. Silly as it sounds I really miss him sleeping behind my legs.
His next checkup is next week. I don’t know about the stairs, hopefully the vet will allow him to walk, but if not I’ll have to figure out how to carry him without pain.
Still sending good thoughts to Nathan.
It’s not silly. I’m sure Nathan misses it, too!
I know this is hard on both of you. I’m sure you’re doing the right thing to help Nathan’s recovery.
I’d say if it is the Veterinarian’s instructions, that is a pretty sure thing. ![]()
I’ve heard of other dox owners doing this too. It’s hard but it’s for the best. Hang in there. It’s almost been a week, right?
That’s how we operate, too. The three “little” ones each have their own box they stay in for the night and to eat. The “first” dog is allowed to be on his own recognizance.
During the day, when not outside, they all seem to want to be in Dixie’s box. I don’t know why, it’s pretty much the same as the others. ![]()
Thanks! I try to keep 'em in good shape.
I saw them too. I can’t imagine why the video was taken down. I really liked the one who looked like he was flopped over on his side while digging.
I swore I’d never let a dog sleep in my bed, so Lewis spent a few weeks in his crate at night when he first got here. He was fine with it, trained to the crate from puppyhood. I’ve never regretted that… makes it easy to travel with him and he always has a “safe” place. But one night, he was shivering and I took pity. (Dog clothes also came into our lives, something else I’d been previously opposed to.)
Now, I can’t imagine not having him in the bed, despite waking up one morning with my hair covered in dog vomit and the equally unfortunate more recent incident of little doggie butt flowers on the sheets after a hasty potty break just before bedtime. I missed a dingleberry, not his fault, but washing and drying the under pad on the bed before putting fresh sheets on before I could sleep was annoying.
I know exactly how you are feeling, Baker. Sounds like Nathan is improving! I hope he is sleeping behind your knees again very soon!
No.
I was this -><- close to spitting my beer on the keyboard. You fiend.
He was doing “The Curly”. ![]()
Isn’t there anyplace else to see it again?
