Weiner dog owners, can we talk?

I got Nathan’s ashes back today. It’s a much smaller package than I even imagined. The sealed pack is in a pretty blue velvet bag, with gold letters embroidered on it say “Til we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.” He will be interred at the pet cemetery next week.

It will be two years ago in June since I lost my dachshund, Baxter. We buried him in the back yard. He was our third, and as cantankerous as they can get, doxies have a way of burrowing into your heart.

Best wishes, Baker.

Tomorrow afternoon, at 2:00 PM CDT, I will have Nathan interred at the cemetery. In addition to his ashes I will put a small dog rawhide bone(he loved them!), a small picture of Nathan with Santa, his last rabies tag, and a small St. Francis medallion he recieved at last year’s Blessing of the Animals.

I’ve actuall found short memorial services for pets, online, and a couple of the prayers are very moving. I may recite one of them, or put that off until the permanant grave marker arrives. It will read:

NATHAN

2010-2017

MASTER, THIS IS THY SERVANT- R. KIPLING

Baker, I’m so very, very sorry for your loss. May his memory be eternal.

I’m so sorry Nathan had so short a time with you. I hope the memorial brings you some peace. {{{hugs}}}

That will be 9am here. I’ll be thinking of you and Nathan.

Thank you all so much. It really helps to talk, he was so wonderful

This is the poem “His Apologies”, by Kipling, part of the first line of which will be on his marker stone when it arrives.

I encourage you to get another dachshund soon. That always took the sting off losing a dog when I was growing up. The new dog would even play with the previous one’s toys.
