Weird, amusing, offbeat or odd cover songs

The Hindu Love Gods (Warren Zevon, Bill Berry, Mike Mills and Pete Buck) did a cover of this as well.

I didn’t read all the replies, but as for the OP, I think I’ve got the mother of far removed covers.
Luther Wright and the Wrongs
They covered the entire album of The Wall (They have Roger’s blessing on the project)
…It’s done in a bluegrass style.

You can hear a sample of it at Best Buy’s website

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to it and my computer is acting funky, but I believe Hey You was fairly representative of the album. If you like Pink Floyd (and banjo music) it’s a good buy.

Salamander Crossing does a beautiful bluegrass cover of the Bruce Springsteen song “Two Faces Have I.”

This stunned me and made me laugh like crazy when I heard it on the radio a few months ago, Ben Folds Five covering She Don’t Use Jelly by the Flaming Lips.

I agree on American Pie 100% (even though Mr. Maclean liked it just fine, ftr), and also Imagine. Madonna doesn’t sing other people’s songs well.

But I completely disagree about Fever. I can see how someone would loathe it for being a dance song and not a torch song. I can see how someone would loathe it for being too techno-y. But if you stop and just accept it for what it is, it’s fine.

The Mike Flowers Pops, I believe.

Since we’re on the subject of unlikely bluegrass covers, how about The Meat Purveyors doing Ratt’s “Round and Round”?

Tom Jones with Art of Noise, covering Prince’s “Kiss.” Wonderful remake!

The Beatles didnt make that one. It is written by Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford, and originally recorded by Barrett Strong. Also, the melody is more or less taken from the Ray Charles tune What’d I Say.
