This is a new one for me, & maybe someone can determine if this is a virus situation or server problem or ?? I received email from a friend. When I clicked on to read it, the From line is from what appears to be a spam email address: regional_rrr@yahoo.com. And the subject line says “Interest Rates Won’t Remain Low Forever, Take Advantage NOW !!” That’s usual spam stuff. Nothing’s in the body. I can’t read what was originally sent. I even tried forwarding it to my hotmail account, but when I do that, the Subject line shows the forward of the original message from my friend.
I forwarded the message to abuse@yahoo.com & briefly explained what happened. Is it possible that my friend has a virus in his email? I don’t seem to have any based on my virus scanner.
Curiously, you say the email was from a friend, yet you debunk that with the FROM: being a spam address, so I do not entirely understand…
I do have a idea why you could not see anything in the body of the email. This often happens to me…There is in fact copy in the body of the email, you just can not see it. The sender who created the email, used html in the email, and a few things happened. First it could be that there is just html email in there, and no plain text alternative of the email, and your email application is set up to show only plain text, but there is none in this case to show. The second thing could be that the html is simply so malformed that your email application can also not show it.
If you want to really see what the email has to say, take a look at the headers or the “view source” of the message, if your email application has such a feature, you will then see all the gobbly gook there is…hoep that helps.
Thanks for the info., Scott. But I still can’t figure out about the subject line, etc. It’s hard to explain, but here goes again. When you look at your in-box you see that the sender is someone you know. When you highlight that line it stays that way, but when you look below to read the message, there is a totally different sender with different email address, a different subject line content, and nothing in the body. I called my friend and had them forward their sent message to me. That time it received OK. I also asked them to do a full virus scan on their system & it checked out OK.
