Ah, this one agian…it was answered in a thread a copule of months ago… I think it was in GQ

WOW!

I’d like to know the MATH behind this one. I’d put it in GQ to get a factual answer…

It’s been posted and answered before, but I can’t find the link.

Basically, your final answer will always be a multiple of 9. If you look at the list of symbols, each multiple of 9 has the same picture.

I’m sure somebody will be in with the full math behind it soon…

I have a little time, so I’ll try to solve this:

You choose two single digit numbers; X and Y.
The two digit number is 10X+Y
You then take away (X+Y), leaving you with (10X+Y)-(X+Y)
This simplifies to 9X

The answer will always be a multiple of 9.

Ah, what a relief. I’ll take a look in GQ…

Because the only numbers you can get using that formula (pick a two-digit number, add the digits, subtract from original number) are 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54 and so forth.

The same symbol is then assigned to those numbers, the list fades away when you click and the crystal ball then reads your mind using the techniques of the ancient Aztecs.

And on preview, dammit.

Ah but how does it know what multiple of nine’s symbol you have chosen? there would only be 11 guesses.

Phlosphr, If you look at the list, 9, 18, 27, 36… all have the same symbol. Each time you try the page the list of symbols change, but the multiple of 9s are always the same symbol. So it doesn’t matter which numbers you choose.

OIC. Thanks!

GQ thread started by The Great Zamboni.

LOL. Someone posted this on the Allman Brothers site, and I broke it all down and worked it out myself. Turns out I could’ve just come here and watched half a dozen people do the same thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

When I saw the title of the thread, I said a silent prayer that it wouldn’t one of the two lame-ass sites that have been posted many times before: the symbols on the multiples of nine or the playing cards that all change when you are supposed to pick one. Sadly, and once again, that prayer wasn’t answered.
