Weird fuzzy bursts on doppler radar.

Besides my post on MPSIMS I had to post one more thing, a question before I sleep. I was checking the doppler radar for rain (forecasts are always wrong, but when the radar shows it, i get a better idea of what to expect) and I sometimes see these strange bursts, like big fuzzy balls of green that appear and disappear within a second. It happens occasionally on the radar and it looks as if there are narrow green lines bunched tightly together in a ball, and shooting outward. I don’t know what it is, or what they are called… anyone have an idea?

Thanks!

Lots of things can get picked up on doppler radar. Flocks of bats, birds and bugs often give spurious readings, but they would be unlikely to produce images that only last a second or so.

If so, probably some form of microwave interference is likely. You sometimes get weird spiral patterns too when the radars are being tested or calibrated. Conspiracy theorists have a field day with them!

It looks exactly like that spiral pattern, except all green. It usually only happens over major cities… The calibration part makes sense, but I can’t find a definitive answer on what these things are…I suppose interference. Ruling out conspiracy though.
