Weird IE problem

When trying to load www.straightdope.com, I was getting a pop up that would ask if I wanted to download a file, then it would try to save and then just exit.

I could start IE and go to another web page, but could never go to www.straightdope.com.

I came home from a short vacation. Went to the SDMB. Chose “New Posts” There were 20 pages of new posts. As usual, I tried to open all 20 pages of new posts before they “timed out” and became older than the current session. After 9 pages, IE would open any more, and I had to shut down all instances. When I tried to go back to the www.straightdope.com, I got the above problem. I restarted the computer. Then tried again. same problem. I tried deleting history and cookies. No help.

Finally, I went to google, typed “Straight Dope” and opened the first link. Success! Now I can open IE and go to www.straightdope.com all the time.

Anyone know what might have happened? Norton is not reporting a virus.

Could it have been a typo? Did you use an existing bookmark or type in the URL?

Nope, no typo. Straightdope is my homepage. AND I have it as a favorite.

This happened to me a couple of times. It’s been awhile, though, and I don’t recall fixing it other than to connect at a different time.

Well, what file was that? Name? Extension?
