Weird sexual behavior at work -- how concerned should we be?

You know, I kind of agree with the opinion that the janitor closet-cum-sex dungeon or whatever it is sounds kind of contrived. This sounds like something me and some of my friends might pull to screw with the boss . . . sort of, anyway.

But, if this guy or girl or couple or group in there really is crazy, might it not be a kinder solution to find the perp(s) in question and get them to the company shrink (assuming you have something like that where you work) or something?

Which isn’t to say the price of the locks shouldn’t be withheld from your friendly neighborhood psychotic’s paycheck (can you get away with that?), and that you shouldn’t issue a very stern warning, but I’d hate to think of somebody getting fired for a stupid joke and/or a mental illness . . .

IMHO, of course . . .

And I realize I’m not there confronted with the teddy and chains . . . and I’m also up way past my bedtime so my thinking isn’t the best at the moment, but still . . . .

I was working toward a point here–damn!

I guess just realize that things aren’t always what they seem and don’t overreact whatever the truth turns out to be.

Well you may want to consider that more than one person or one couple are using the room.
Perhaps one person is an aspiring erotic artist.

Another person just wants to take a nap at work.

You didn’t describe the knife but a pocket knife would be common among factory workers and losing one would not be uncommon.

The fingerprints looked like blood but if I’m not mistaken AuntiePam you are not a M.E. so it may be something else or the person may have cut themselves for some non-sexual reason.

The chains and step ladder may be totally un-related. Did you find handcuffs?

The teddy is harder to explain but may have been worn into work and then abandoned because they were ridding up or brought in to change into latter and then left there for some reason.

Tinfoil? When I was kid and had to take medicine at school my mom would wrap the pills in foil for me to carry in my pocket. Someone may have taken mirgraine meds and laid down for a nap.

You described the drawings as ‘dirty’. Please be more specific. Are they nudes? Do they depict sex acts? Are the people in the drawings adults? Could you post them? Please?

Great. Now I have the image of a scantily clad dominatrix whipping a small teddy bear that has been chained to the wall. What’s worse is… I like it.

Ditto. You’re in business to make money, and this can only be a liability. Film it and fire 'em. Put it permanently to bed and get back to your business.

Wow, I missed this thread the first time around, but this person sounds really abberant. I would be very uncomfortable working someplace where this was happening.

In case this is still an issue:

I’m not a lawyer. What I am is a “middle manager” with the Federal Government. As such, I’ve been to mandatory training on sexual harrassment issues quarterly for nearly ten years now.

Reality Chuck is correct. All you need is ONE employee to state to an equal opportunity review board that this situation makes them sexually uncomfortable at work. Any supervisory person that is aware of this situation and fails to take corrective action is considered just as guilty as the person committing these acts.

That aside, this person could be dangerous. As has already been pointed out, how would you feel if someone is physically harmed after no action was taken?

IMHO, the union would not get involved in supporting/protecting the person that is doing this. Knives and chains at work? I would think that rather the union would insist on this person’s removal, as a possible threat to other members.

Let us know how this comes or came out, please.

I guess you’re trying to be funny. If so, you’re succeeding, because you’ve made me think of BronzeLion and his “doctors” in “empty conference rooms”.

Seriously, though, Pam, whoever is using the room is probably doing so after hours. Who has the ability to get into the building when it’s otherwise closed? It might be a security person.

Watch out for workplace masturbators. All kinds off nasty problems can develop:

A company with 2000 employees probably has a legal department or a law firm on retainer. What do they say?

I’m picturing Snuggles, the Fabric Softener Bear.

I wish I could remember the specifics but your story reminds me of an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. Someone found evidence similar to yours at work, (a small blood stain, a piece of ripped clothing, etc.) on a few occasions but he thought it was just someone having sex at work and didn’t make a big deal about it. As it turned out, someone was torturing and killing prostitutes at work.

I’ll try and look it up, but I watched it a long time ago and I have no clue where to even begin looking. Not that I think one of your employees it killing people on the premises, but the hidden camera sounds like a good idea either way.

I agree with the plant nurse. This could be the work of a sexual sadist, as the scene definitely sounds like a scripted fantasy set-up. This person may not yet be acting out against real victims, but he may be working himself up to it.

Don’t take a chance. Get someone to do a proper investigation and identify who is doing this. If it is someone just pulling a prank, no big deal. But if it isn’t, this person needs to be identified immediately.
