Weird things you called your g-parents, or how you kept both sets distinct

My paternal grandparents: Nana & Papa. Although, EVERYONE else calls my Nana “Nanny or Nan”, and I was always like…“but her name is NANA!” hehe…

My maternal grandmother, was french, (Québec), and I couldn’t say grandmother in french so I just called her Mémé. My maternal grandfather died before I was born.

Not real creative, I know, but it was enough for family purposes. We never had big reunions or anything - I can think of maybe once in my life when all four grandparents were in the same household.

Me? I’m gonna do something different. Heck if I know what, but as of now I’m thinking “Farfar Max”, even if I only have daughters.

Both of my grandmothers were “Granny.” We differentiated between the family by Granny and Pop (sometimes Papa) or Granny and Dan (my grandfather’s first name).

My great grandfather was “White Papa” so differentiated by us kids supposedly by his white hair. My great grandmother that we knew was Manaine (spelling? It was her first name).

Now, I must be the only one who was really out in left field.

When I was older, of course, and my mom remarried, it ws Grand (last name) and then just Grandpa b/c my dad’s dad had died already. I never knew my biological father.

But, anyway, when wee little (3, 4) it was Stamps for Grandpa b/c he worked as a clerk in the post office, and Telephone for my grandma b/c she worked at Penny’s in one of the customer service departments and was on the phone much of the day.

I just call them all Grandma or Grandpa.

However, my maternal grandparents divorced, and my grandmother on that side remarried a man named Lew. His eldest grandchild wasn’t able to pronounce “Grandpa” when he was little, so Lew is known to his grandkids as “Munga.”

My one cousin on that side of the family had difficulty pronouncing “Grandma” when she was little, so my Grandma McD is known to her as “Mugga.”

Munga and Mugga. It makes me wonder if I’m the only grandkid who wasn’t on crack.
