Alas that we shall now never hear the wit and wisdom that Not All Men Bugger Leprous Armadilloes no doubt had to offer.
Someone should check and see if the IP was somewhere in the area of Neverland Ranch.
We’ve always won, too.
Holy crap, that is not safe for anywhere. Knowing that little electronic signatures are made everywhere I go on the internet I just put my little foot in the NAMBLA door. Please, for the love God, explain your link. I thought it was a link to the thread.
Giraffe, I think it would be a better idea to just break that link. As you can tell from all the people that complain about going to PDF’s, people don’t look, they just click. If anyone is interested, they can type it into their browser.
EddyTeddyFreddy, what were you thinking?
(fixed coding–Veb)
Well, since you’re here, can you make any excuse for the username?
You’re welcome. Unless you’ve got a spectacularly good explanation for your name, might I suggest you ask to have it changed to something less offensive and inflammatory.
Why does it give the number of your posts if youre a guest?
That’s an excellent question. Clicking on find all posts only results in the one in this thread. Odd.
I went ahead and removed the link. The organization it linked to was pretty obvious, and Giraffe’s warning about its work-safely was even clearer, but apparently some people were still clicking on it anyway.
Veb
Actually, this is not true. We will pretty certainly ask that he request a new username–usernames that invite Pittings when no one has read anything the person has posted are not encouraged.
However, IMNSHO, we put up with a lot of ideas that one group or another find abhorent and offensive. The staff has made no decision to preemptively ban this person simply based on their name.
Oooops – my apologies to you all who were upset by that! When I found and followed that link (by pasting “nambla” in the Google box) and it came up with the relatively innocuous-looking home page of that vile organization, it didn’t occur to me that it could be a problem for others. Now, if there’d been graphic graphics, for example…
Which actually raises a point that it would seem I’m not as clear on as I’d thought. I certainly understand why one should either not link, or link with a warning, to content that is likely to be perceived as offensive. But I took that to mean things like visuals, or patently offensive text. The NAMBLA home page didn’t strike me as falling within that ambit, although if I’d thought it through I should have realized that someone clicking onto the link from a work computer could have a genuine problem with it.
Again, my apologies. Could any mod who’s reading this lay out parameters for things like this? If one were discussing, for example, a neo-Nazi group, should one include a warning in a link to that group’s home page?
Mods, the link in my original post is gone but you need to remove it also from quotations of it in posts 7 and 24. It’s still working in those two.
So that’s how to get my coding fixed - say something that a mod will quote!
That is a good point, ETF, and perhaps I overreacted. Though I haven’t (and won’t) go to that site, I should have had enough trust in you that you wouldn’t have broken the one-click rule. My apologies.
Maybe a little text next time? “This is the home site of… etc.”
Done.
Not wishing to junior mod, but I find it pretty hard to read this guy’s name as being anything but gratuitously repellent, and as such falling pretty squarely under “being a jerk”: I doubt he has much of a future here, but short of banning him outright is there any way to suspend him until he changes his name?
Ignore that last post. As the sun sets slowly in the west, Numbnuts bids a fond farewell to the colourful Pit and its quaint inhabitants, with a hearty “Fuck off and don’t come back” echoing in his ears.
I think the unusual capitalization, and the fact that he didn’t already make any excuse, means none is coming and it means just what everybody thinks it does. Ah well.
If you scroll back, you’ll see a big fat BANNED nestling snugly next to what was presumably his odious idea of a joke.
I guess Friday the 13th didn’t work out too well for him…
