I don’t think we ever know exactly what Julia’s torture was. Winston meets up with her in the end and all we are clued into are a few scars on her face. She could have gotten the rat treatment, but I don’t recall Orwell ever saying exactly what her torture was. Each torture is designed specifically for the individual.
As for the show, my annoyance would be a phone ringing and nobody picking it up. “Answer the phone!!”
I would like to make an addition to my previous list: people who don’t feel the cold. They have no idea of the misery it causes though of us who do. Top of the list are the people who say to me “You can’t be cold” in a disbelieving voice. Oh really? AND WHY NOT??!
Students: They’re all about 15 years old and want to tell the rest of the world that it’s wrong about every thing. And they wear ludicrous hats (I even hated them when I was one).
Sting: Self rightous prick. You can tell he used to be a schoolteacher. Shut up Gordon.
Rap Music: Just plain nasty. Nasty men with nasty attitudes.
Vegetarians: Get over it you ponces.
William Hill: They have too much of my money.
Woolwich Arsenal Football Club: Unspeakable
My local Jaguar dealer: Just fix the damned car you mommet. You sold it to me - you fix it.
“Quote Unquote” on Radio 4. My poor ears.
Money Box also on R4: Patio falangists and poujadists. THe daily mail in audio form.
This is getting more like " Grumpy Old Men " then Room 101. I consider myself a GOM and look on One Foot In The Grave not as a comedy but as a documentary on real life.
Pet peeves. . .hmm. . .that’s hard. . .I’m a pretty easy going guy. . .there are some things that annoy me a little bit, but nothing that I would ever consider Room 101 (I’m sure somebody will be posting about indecisiveness any time now). . .except cold. Cold sucks.
