"We'll always remember 9/11"

If someone has a bumper sticker proclaiming this on their SUV (or other vehicle, I just usually see them on SUVs), what exactly are they trying to communicate?

Someone around here has a sticker that reads, “Am I the only one who remembers 9/11?” Whenever I see them, I just scream, “Yes! You’re the only one, asshole!”

And then I puzzle over it for a while.

It means, “Thank God we’ll always have an emotional crutch, to beat Democrats over the head with.”

“Hey Look at me, I’m willing to put crap on my bumper so that others will know how good I think I am”

Well, we won’t always remember it, will we? Can you imagine how many bumper stickers there’d be if every tragedy since the beginning of human history never slipped out the general populaces’ awareness?

No doubt, the person with the bumper sticker is mad that some people are still against attacking Iraq in response to 9/11.

That’s exactly right. The minute you speak against the war on Iraq, someone will invariably respond, “Have you FORGOTTEN 9/11??”

Now we just need a snappy bumper sticker retort for that.

9/11? Did something happen on that day?

Oh, right. That’s right. Thank God for bumper stickers.

I’m just glad somebody remembers that hellish day back in 1903, when the S.S. Inchulva foundered in a hurricane, with the loss of nine of its crew.

Apparently Henry Hudson also landed on Manhattan on 9/11/1609. NEVER FORGET!

The bumper sticker people care more, and are therefore better Americans. The rest of us are quasi-terrorists.

Calm down guys, they’re just reminding you of the number to call if you’re in an emergency.

Sheesh, try and do people a favor these days…

That’s the problem with nuance – it doesn’t translate well to sloganizing.

twicks, who has a “Peace” sticker on her car – and thus obviously has forgotten … what was that date again?

Ah, but you have to remember that our populace possesses a certain vanity that takes the form of:

Anything that happened during our generation is much more important that what has happened in the past. Because, like, you know, we’re more important.

Overcoming this misconception is is probably the best reason for history to be a mandatory subject.

Umm… didn’t the 9/11 attacks occur under a Republican gubmint? :dubious:

Perhaps someone could print up a few reading:
BUSH & CO
Fomenting the next 9/11 since 2002!

I think it means “if i give up my suv, the terrorists have won.”

“After seeing the numerous mass killings and genocides in the world over the last 60 years, I’ve decided to cover up my ‘Never Again’ sticker because it embarrasses me?”

Whoa. And then 392 years later, TO TEH DAY… Whoa.

I am so getting a bumper sticker that says “We’ll always remember the Boston Tea Party”.

Some alternative bumper stickers:

  • we’ll always remember Iraq’s WMDs

  • we’ll always remember ‘Mission Accomplished’

  • we’ll always remember to vote Republican

  • we’ll always remember that Democrats hate God and love evolution

and best of all

  • we’ll always remember 9/11/06 (70 Iraqi civilians killed)
