Well, I found out what 'seashell balls' are, but I still don't know what they're FOR

Talk about your meaningless arts ‘n’ crafts. Jo-Ann Fabrics has these weird-lookin’ things called “natural sea shell balls” featured in their current catalog. Two minutes with Google was sufficient to explain to me what they ARE (styrofoam balls covered with tiny seashells), but I still don’t know what they’re FOR.

–other than Girl Scouts craft projects, “the perfect Mother’s Day gift!”

Glarg.

Is it maybe a Southern California thing?
