Well.... I lost my job.

For god’s sake WHY do companies always to this at Christmas time??? It makes my blood boil! GRrrrrrrrrrrr…

Good luck, kelli

oh kelliebelli, i’m sorry. it is heartning to hear that they gave you a bit of warning. at my office they tell you 15 minutes before you leave for the day. i hope that your holidays will be happy inspite of this set back.

“Their loss.”

That’s the way I looked at it when I was laid off (both times). Each time, I found a better job…after enjoying unemployment for a while.

Bad stuff happens, then good stuff happens. You’ll see.

Why do companies always do this around Christmas time? Because many companies will enter into a new fiscal year on January 1. If you are going to eliminate positions that is the time to do it. Should a company continue spending $5,000 a month per position until is is a better part of the year for firing people?

That said, sorry to hear it happened to you kellibelli. Hope it all turns out well.

I agree with Rysday, ** kelli, ** but I’m still sorry that you’re having to face this, especially with your ‘plate’ being full enough with your mom’s illness.

But, I do believe that when one door closes, a window opens up full of other opportunities that you might not have noticed.

Keep your chin up, sweetie.

kellibelli: You sound like a well adjusted knowledgable individual in posts. I’m sure you’ll get a good job. Remember that your starting with no senority at the new job, and if they suck, try a new one in a week or two. The last time I quit a job, I worked at new jobs until I decided this was the one. Maybe you sould try a temp company to test out new jobs. Our company ends up hiring about half the temp workers it uses. My sister just quit her last job and got a job for 6 grand a year more. There are more jobs out there than people right now.

The above does not reflect the fact that I like to read your posts. Mostly.

Just remember that jobs are still hard to fill, it’s still an employee’s market out there. Reguardless being laid off or fired does tend to make one feel like shit. Don’t forget that this board is a good place to get some support.

Sorry, Kelli…no advice from here, just hugs and best of wishes.

P.S. I forgot about your mom till reading the replies again. I hope she improves. What’s currently happening? Sorry, this a high jack.

Oh, {{{{{Kell}}}}}!

Kelli, it’s been said before by a lot of people, but these things usually turn out for the better. I hope you can keep your spirits up while you’re waiting for that to happen, and you have my best wishes for a great new year.

Sorry to hear about the job woes. Losing my job probably is one of the worst things that could happen to me, so I can feel your pain. Being fired would be worse though.

My most sincere regrets to you. I know as of recent, how it feels. Good luck to you and yours during this.

I want to thank you all again for your support.

My soon-to-be former boss sent me my letter of recommendation today, it says in part:**
Kelli has been consistently conscientious, hardworking, and thorough. She practices excellent customer service and is a capable and reliable employee. I have no hesitation recommending her for any position for which she might be considered**

I thought that was nice…

There sure seems to be alot of us that have been hit by the same unemployment-brick lately… Thats scary, isnt it?

There really doesnt seem to be any such thing as ‘job security’ anymore. When I was a kid, a ‘lay-off’ was the end of the world! But now, there is no shortage of jobs, but at the same time, lots of people are losing jobs… its pretty fucked up.

The upside of all this is I can post lots more!! What are they gonna do???

FIRE ME???

Bwa-hahahahahah!!!
ps to phobia - mom is in ‘remission’ I guess - there is no active cancer right now, she is finishing a really brutal round of chemo next week, then we just wait for the cancer to come back. She wants to try a low-dose long term chemo program next time, we have heard very promising things about it. She continues to work, but has cut down to 4 half days a week. She & my step dad are looking at buying a home! Pretty indicative of her frame of mind!! She has no plans on dying, doctors be damned! I have never been prouder to be her daughter. She is the strongest person I have ever met. She is pretty good at adjusting your perspective too - like she said, “its just a job”.
Mom is very wise

Bastards! Bastard!

Sorry I’m replying so late to your bad news Kelli. Ya know what? You’re already well on your way to a full recovery.

You rock Kelli. Yer gonna be just fine.
Is the owner that dirt bag Conrad Black?

I hate to be a “me too” but…

DAMN! THAT SUCKS!

But I agree with a lot of folks here; you obviously have a lot of marketable skills and I know you’ll be fine!

Corporations don’t have hearts; they have boards of directors and share holders, who want their dividends, and guess who loses when you get in the way?

One thing you need keep in mind is that this was a business decision, in no way connected to your value as a person. Disconnect ‘you’ from the ‘job’. You were looking for work when you found this one, right? Take a deep breath, update your resume, and spend the next 30 days networking like a madwoman; you’ll probably step into something even better.
Merry Christmas hon; keep the faith.
