Well, I wasted my vote

Yep, I voted for Browne. Despite how much I despise Gore, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Dubya. So there you have it.

Scott

Doc,

  In many states the conclusion is foregone one way or the other. Protest votes show the major parties not everyone fits under their umbrellas.

The technology exists for a nationwide popular vote tabulation. Abolish the electoral college. I know it was in the Constitution, but back you couldn’t vote unless you were a white male landowner. We extended the franchise. Contract the bureaucracy.

doc, I did the same thing (almost). Couldn’t bear to vote for either of 'em, so voted for Nader. Never thought I’d do such a thing…

Remember the old Eddie Murphy bit about the two white guys who get drunk on election day:

“Let’s vote for Jesse Jackson!!”
<drunken giggling>

<step into voting booth; kachunk, kachunk>
<they come out>

“We just voted for Jesse Jackson!!”
<drunken giggling>

Next day: <incredulous> “He fucking WON?!!?!!???”

Scarlett, it happened already - Gov. Jesse Ventura…

I have never been so underwhelmed by an election. No one came to Mississippi to ask for our votes. Everyone treats it like it’s a forgone conclusion that we will all blindly vote for Bush. I mean, damn, it’s not too much to ask to stop by and say “Hi!” is it?

Just shows you who really counts in this nation of equals. Those with the most power get the most attention. If they didn’t come to your state, you can safely assume they’ve got a big stick and a bottle of KY for you. Just bend over and you’ll get the idea.

Good for you, doc and Athena.

It’s my opinion that you only waste your vote if you let someone talk you into voting for someone you don’t really want in office. Making your voice heard, no matter how quietly, is still better than being convinced your vote won’t matter unless you side with one of the two major parties. Maybe if enough people vote for third parties, the Democrat and Republicans will begin to realize we’re getting sick of the partisan BS.

I’m still voting for Gore, though, sorry.

add me to the list of “wasted” votes - nader and another green party member running for the washington st. congress.

woohoo!

i actually enjoyed voting this election.

seattle has a monorail proposition on the ballot, and i couldn’t help but think of that beautiful Simpson’s episode with the (everyone sing now) MONORAIL.

So, kjorsty, don’t keep us in suspense…did you vote for or against the Monorail?

Scott

MOTHER FUCKING BROWNE, BAYBEEEE!

“Smoke weed everyday…”

–Tim

You had the monorail proposition? I didn’t remember seeing it, unless it was Prop. 1 and I skimmed over it. Or do Eastsiders not get to vote on the monorail?

I didn’t “waste” any votes, but I did vote for a bunch of people I didn’t know anything about. I fell asleep last night trying to read the Voter Information pamphlet.

Yea, I know. I’m 20, I could have voted in the last statewide. But I didn’t.

I’m gonna vote for Gore because the idea of Dubya in the white house literally made it difficult for me to fall asleep last night. I love Ralph, I do. I hope to God he gets his 5% and is back in 4 years. But I really, REALLY hope Dubya doesn’t win. Really.

As far as statewide goes, I get to vote against Satan, aka Ruth Dwyer, canidate for Governor. Against Civil Unions, Act 60 (statewide funding law), pro-life, and is an unapologetic bigot. My sister was dragged to a rally by her boyfriend, and reported that Ruth “Not only gave a bad name to politicians, but she gave a bad name to women.”

Off to the polls!

I voted for Browne, would have thought about Bush had MD not been Gore already. Had I not known about Browne I would not have voted at all because of the EC. I feel better when I don’t vote.

JayLa, I think it was a Seattle City proposition. It wasn’t one of the general initiatives that appeared on all the ballots. Maybe it was only on the city ballots…anyway, I voted for it…as well as Nader…

Cool! Me too! I was just plain ambivalent about Gore or Bush.

I did it on the off chance that the Green Party would get enough votes to get matching funds next election.

As a DC resident, any vote I cast for prez is wasted. I’m thinking about writing in “my conscience”.

Concerning the monorail- I hear those things are awfully loud…

I also voted for Browne.

I feel good about voting today for the first time (granted, I’ve only been eligible to vote for 3 prez elections).

I meant that even though I have voted before, this is the first time I have felt good about it.
