Well It Looks Like I Am Going To Have A Lot Of Time To Read The Boards Now!

I had an idea that it was going to happen, but I wasn’t expecting it so soon. This afternoon when I went to work they called me into the office and told me that I was laid off. At least I wasn’t the only one let go, it appears that they laid off approximately two-thirds of the production staff and I have a hunch that the company is not going to be in business much longer. Thirteen years of hard work down the drain. The good news is that I’m eligible to draw unemployment, the bad news is that unemployment is only going to pay me about three-quarters of what I used to make and it will be about a month before the checks start coming in. Making life even more interesting is that all of our savings were wiped out when Ayesha had to go into the hospital back in July and the cheapskate large corporations that I used to work for does not believe in severance pay. So now I am sitting here ranking my brain trying to figure out how I am going to keep a roof over our heads after the first of the month when the rent is due and a couple weeks before the unemployment checks start showing up. Wish me luck folks.

I don’t know what to tell you, exxcept that my thoughts are with both of y’all. If I hear of anything in printing, I’ll definitely let you know.

Good luck.

I highly recommend talking to your landlord BEFORE the rent actually becomes late, if in the next two weeks it looks as if you won’t have it.

Also, check with your local social service agency, they can usually provide an emergency assistance check to cover your rent and utilities and food until your unemployment checks start coming in.

Best Wishes.

mornea’s given you good advice. Also, talk to your landlord and other creditors. I’m not sure where you are, but in my part of the US, layoffs have been pretty common, so there’s plenty of resources and understanding. I know. I was laid off 9 weeks ago (not that I’m counting or anything).

Good luck, and take care,
CJ

I third the social services suggestion. I just started working for one and they have TONS of programs for people in your situation - Everything from grants to loans to heating assistance to medical help to “my car died, help me!!” aid. It’s just incredible what’s out there and how few people know about it.

(And a lot of this is funded by your tax dollars - USE it!)

Lion and Ayesha; Sorry to hear of this badoldness happening to y’all. You are in my best prayers, and am here whatever I can do for you. Most best thoughts and heart wishes to you. Just hang in there.

Yeah, man. Sympathies. I was laid off back in May. Lotsa interviews but no offer yet.

Let me back up everyone who said talk to your landlord BEFORE the crisis point. Much better that he or she knows what’s up and isn’t surprised by it.

Good luck with all.

Thanks everyone. I will admit I feel guilty here, if my incision hadn’t come open then all our money wouldn’t be gone, if I could get a job with a hole in my belly, blah, blah ,blah.
Poor LIONsob is getting depressed and trying nnot to let me know it, ha. You can’t hide something like that from someone you have lived with for 25 years,

About talking to the landlord, don’t know how much good that will do since we live in a large complex run by a large management company. We can try. all they can do is kill us, they can’t eat us that is against the law.

Anyway I just wanted to thank you all for supporting hubby,

It’s hard not to be depressed when you get kicked out of your job, even if the reasons had nothing to do with you.

You’re both in my thoughts and prayers, LIONsob and Ayesha.

Man, that’s horrible.

I second the suggestion of talking to the landlord, even if it’s a Faceless Corporation. Chances are they’ll be willing to cut you some slack.

Good luck. You guys will be in my thoughts and prayers too.
