Well, it's official...Ohio, here I come.

So how far are you from Pittsburgh?

(Please say that last year was not the last Dope-A-Ween-it was my first, it can’t be my last, no sir, it won’t be…)

Hmmmm - you’re looking for houses with lots of bedrooms? That means you’ll be expecting lots of overnight visitors, huh? A Doper B&B, perhaps?

Well shucks. Crap. ::sniff:: The MADs are just getting to be a smaller and smaller crowd (I’m hangin’ on by a thread here, dude).

All I can say is it’s gonna be a hell of a ride to the next DaW. But it has been a while since fizzy and I saw the Ohio dopers.

[sub]Hell YES we’re going. It’s not a lot farther to Columbus, OH than it is to DC.[/sub]

Hmmm. Checking memory . . . checking maps . . .

[size=2]Woo-hoo!! If Mapquest is to be believed, it’s about 150 miles from 'Burgh central! While I’m glad I got to visit the famous Chance Estate once, I’m glad you’re moving closer. I can also point you in the general direction of get togethers which are similar to Dope-A-Ween in various bits of Ohio.

Congratulations on the new job, and good luck!

CJ

Priam: oh, that article xii (lower case for a small minded amendment). I’d forgotten about that one, I think it was passed last time I lived here and it was so stupid I just kind of assumed it would have been fixed by now. Also, it’s ironic since Cincinnati as a whole seems to have become at least slightly more alternative lifestyle friendly. Even P&G offers “domestic partner benefits” now and even has an openly gay mid-to-upper level management. Still it is Cincinnati, so there’s a better chance that everyone here will forget that the thing exists than it will be removed, I suppose. Anyway, I don’t live or work in the city of Cincinnati, and can’t vote there, so there’s not much more that I can do about it than you could.

Opal, if you’re serious I’ll email you. We could save each other some dough that way.

Here’s a list of the places we’re looking at tomorrow:

Place one.

Place two

Place three

Place four

Place five

Thoughts? Opinions?

JC, I’d rank those 2,3,4,1,5. I might have put 3 first, but I like the idea of that fifth bedroom. You never know when you might get another Chance, although I think 3 has a more mysterious sort of look (which could mean trickier maintenance). And they’re all so affordable. I did notice that there were at least two elementary schools involved, so you might get some opinions as to which is better, unless you don’t use public schools. Kate is about school age now, isn’t she?

I’m going to throw up. You are no longer my friend. I hate you.

I want a big house, too! pout

She’s 3.5 at the moment, yes. She’ll start school in 2005.

All the schools look pretty good (all 4 elementary schools the entire town boasts).

I like #3 but am pretty keen on the lower mortgage I can get with the others.

Tricky call.

I don’t actually know. My contract stipulates that I don’t have to start until Lady Chance finds a job (or works out a telecommuting deal with Lockheed-Martin) and the house sells.

So buy my house! It’s cheap! I’ll discount for Dopers!

Move to Marietta.

It’s such a simple solution for ALL OF US!!!

What’s there? Is it close to any big cities? Are there any major internet companies there? [Rob’s work is 100% of the reason we’re still in NoVa.]

Oh well I could move out a little further from where I am to lovely Manassas, and have this little gem: http://www.realtor.com/Prop/1028042691 it’s only $103,000… 1BR 1BA, 644sq ft…

Well, Columbus is only 45 minutes away. And Wheeling is only an hour.

Internet firms? I dunno. Must be SOME sort of Internet/Network stuff there as there’s some big-ass plants and firms nearby.

Good grief, Opal, the Master BR in that place is 9 X 7!! I think my closet is bigger than that!! I suppose it could work if you slept on bunk beds…

Hey, the listing says 2 bedrooms. The master bedroom is snicker 9 x 7. I’ve had bigger closets. And although it looks like it’s been there since the battle of Manassas, it was only built in 1957. At least it sits on 11200 sq feet. You could knock it down and put up 12 DC-style townhomes.

Columbus is 45 minutes away? By what, helicopter? It must be nice to be part of the jet set.

Are you…mocking me?

And doesn’t that house Opal found look like the one in ‘Evil Dead’?

Careful of that book!

Well, Rand McNally said it’s 124 miles, or 2 hours and 7 minutes, from Marietta to Columbus. Now, they may be wrong, and often over estimate driving time, but I think that 2 hours is about a fair estimate if you want to drive near the speed limit that distance on a decent highway. Although it does look like a straight shot up 77 to 70 to get there, I’d think the only way you could do it in 45 minutes would be if you blazed a new interstate straight from Marietta to Columbus, and even then you’d probably be speeding.

So, laugh-a while you can, Monkey-boy!

Whatever you do- do NOT, and I repeat DO NOT cross the border to the north and enter Michigan. You won’t want to return. Michigan is to Ohio as Jennifer Aniston is to Janet Reno.

Hell, JC already has the hottie portion of that. How good a lawyer is Jennifer Aniston?
