It’s been gradually dawning on me for several weeks now. The Other Girl On Graveyard moved home to Montana about six months ago. The Girl On Day Shift transferred to blackjack a couple of months back. I’m the only one left.
OK, backstory… up until about oh, six or seven years ago, there simply were no female craps dealers at the Horseshoe. Craps was (and in some places, still is) considered a man’s game. Also, some of the older players would not play on a game if there was a woman dealer on the table, some because they believed a female dealer was bad luck, others because they just flat out didn’t want a woman taking money from them. So, up until the early 1990’s, the management at the 'Shoe would shell out the quarter mil or so in fines to the EEOC rather than hire female dice dealers. Even after they did start hiring us, there was never more than one girl per shift- females just didn’t apply for the job, and by and large still don’t.
But, well, there has vever been a female craps dealer on swing since I’ve been working there, one on graveyard who has long since departed, and since Debbie shipped out to the blackjack pit…
I am The Girl Who Deals Craps at the Horseshoe. Which sort of gives me city-wide fame.
That’s really great!
Congratulations!
You also have the distinction of being the doper who OPed the thread that finally coaxed me out of lurkdom.
I had lurked here for a while, but was a bit scared to post. I posted on other forums elsewhere, but the intellectual level here demands one’s best, and I really didn’t know if I’d be shouted down or ridiculed.
You put up an OP to debate workplace probation, and I knew I couldn’t be silent. (It was a very real issue for me at the time AND IT MADE MY BLOOD BOIL!
I see your op’s from time to time, and always take a minute to open/read them.
So, CONGRATULATIONS!
Um, Tripler, you do realize that if the dealers hit that twelve, you lose your twenty-five dollar come bet…
Best just put us on the line next to you, with odds, but we appreciate the bet. I just don’t feel right about a player making a dealer bet against him/herself.
Oh, and Forbin, that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I still think probationary periods are a crock, btw.
I suppose it will take a couple more months for word to get out that there is once again only One Girl Who Deals Craps at the Horseshoe, so it will take a while for me to get that citywide fame I’m entitled to, but still…
Congratulations. That’s really impressive. I know the woman who was first to run lights for a show here in town. You guys are both sort of mini-heroines.
Oh, Vegas dopefest in October. If you’re working, we have to come see you. Wow, that would be swell. Nothing better to make a person famous than a bunch of drunken Dopers.

oops- lost my connection when I submitted that post last night, didn’t know it made it through, so I hit “refresh” and tried again.
Could somebody just delete that, thanks.
bristlesage- bunch of drunken Dopers indeed. I’ll have to warn my shift boss, and try to make him understand that it’s all in the name of fighting ignorance. Maybe I’ll get some brownie points for bringing business into the joint.
