Looks like Stalin’s funeral.
I saw some footage of someone riding the coffin. ‘Wheee-doggie! Lookit me! Ah’m ridin’ Arafat’s coffin! I’m so cool.’
And they’re having… memorial gunfire. Which differs from celebratory gunfire in that it makes a slightly different noise, and the crowd is shouting instead of… shouting.
I’m just glad that his enshrouded body didn’t dump out of the coffin to be paraded about the streets like what happened with the last p.I.b. (poor Islamic bastard) VIP who died, the Ayatollah Khomeini.
What gets me is they’re shooting up in the air…as they always do…
As the body is coming by helicopter. Granted, one assault rifle probably can’t take out a helicopter, but several could. Stranger things have happened.
Whenever I hear ‘We just buried so-and-so’, I think of this:
Two high school friends meet at their 20-year reunion, after having been out of contact with each other all that time.
‘Hey, Fred! How’s it going?’
‘Horrible. We buried Bill Perkins last week.’
‘What? Bill Perkins died?’
‘No, we just buried him. That’s what’s so horrible.’
And I thought Baptists had good funerals. The next time there is a death in the family amongst my office mates, I am asking for an invitation.
When I first saw the title of the thread, I read it as “Well, they’re buying Arafat.”
And I thought, body parts on eBay maybe? :smack:
Funny. I have a mental image of him slung underneath a big cargo helicopter, just like Godzilla
The thing that surprised me the most, while they were trying to bring the coffin to the grave :
A lot of people waved flags. Some were plain white, black, green, yellow flags (I wonder what were these flags), there were plenty of Palestinian flags of course, some egyptian flags, some Iraki flags, a couple french flags (because Arafat was treated in France, I presume)…and suddenly, a really large, proeminent CANADIAN flag appeared in the crowd. And whoever was waving it followed the coffin bearers for several minutes at least (then the airing was interrupted).
I’m still wondering why somebody was waving a Canadian flag behind Arafat’s casket.
An american tourist who got lost and tried to avoid being noticed, maybe?
Have they released an official cause of death yet? There are rumors going around that he died from AIDS, and that supposedly his symptoms (or what we know of them) match the symptoms for late-stage AIDS. They also claim that Arafat was known to be homosexual, and that he regularly had sex with his bodyguards. It’s pretty wild, check out this thread in another bulliten board for the full rumor.
Feh. The Palestinians didn’t even have a brass band, or umbrellas.
Sigh Still, it’s not like I’m ever going to have anyone screaming and firing assault rifles wildly into the air when I die.
Ranchoth
(I’d settle for one good “Noooooooo!”, though.)
