Well, my last few revisions have been made with a view towards making the ad more brief. But I think you’re right that some of that info will be seen as important. I’ll think about how to handle it.

Got nothing to add to your ad (I’d hire you if I had the money) but I live right across the street from UCI. We should hang out.
Other places to find clients are the anteater forum and the UCI livejournal community. If you are looking for another part time job around here, several people have told me to be an English conversationalist for ESL students.
So Frylock, how’s it going?
I’ve always wondered how many UCI or Irvine dopers there are…
Do you know where I can find this “Anteater Forum” or “UCI Livejournal Comunity” of which you speak? Maybe I should just google it…

No takers yet. But the ads just a few days old, and I really didn’t expect much if any response. I still need to put up fliers and find other places online to advertise.
I’m putting up stuff for tutoring in Logic, basic college Math, and writing. I’m also thinking about taking up this “English Conversationalist for ESL students” since I see fliers begging for this all the time. The only catch there is, well, I’m frankly not that quick in the xtemporaneous Interpersonal Conversation with Strangers Department. On the other hand, I lived in Japan for a year so I know what its like to be in a place where you don’t speak the language so well, and I also know how to successfully communicate with non-native speakers. So maybe I should try it.
I’m trying to make 5000 dollars over the suimmer and I am unable to take a 9-5 temporary job due to family scheduling difficulties. Wish me luck!
I’m also trying to get hired with a company that teaches classes on the GRE and GMAT and stuff like that. (Kaplan.) I’m also going to attach myself to a temp agency on the off chance they can find me work that only needs me to show up between 7 and 2. (Fat chance.) I’m also looking for jobs teaching philosophy at community and state colleges, but those are hard to come by and its a bit late to be looking for the Summer anyway.
Any suggestions or advice are welcome. Please. I beg of you.
Anybody around Irvine need me to mow their lawn? (Oops, don’t reply to that, it would be against the rules.)

Minor editing note: I messed up editing the phrase “extemporaneous interpersonal conversations with strangers.” Every word should have been correctly spelled, and each except “with” was supposed to be capitalized. Ignore this message.

Your new ad sounds much better - I really hope you get some takers soon. Are you sure you want to promise that their grades will improve though?
I was thinking about that. Someone might want to make payment contingent on higher grades. I’m not obligated to allow that, but if I refuse, it sounds like I’m backpedalling.
In fact I do believe that if they succeed in applying my advice, their grades will improve. (There’s the other half of the equation, though, of course: Writing well is fine and all, but you’ve got to get your facts right as well… )
It might not be good to make that claim the way I’ve made it.
The first thing I typed was “Your grades should rise accordingly” but that makes the hedge too prominent. I’ll just think of something completely different to put for that sentence.

http://anteaterforum.com/ I found my new roommates here. I’ve not tried buying/selling stuff. I might get a bike once I have money.
UCI LiveJournal Community — LiveJournal My ex roomie sold stuff on here but I have not.
I am going to be looking for a new job myself once I get over this evil cold. I was working as a Waitress which seems to be the best way to make a large amount of cash in a short amount of time. If you don’t like people at all, then try being a busboy. Here you get minimum + tips so it’s a good job.
I work as an econ TA but it’s just $10/hour. The nice thing is that you grade the papers at home so you can do it at odd hours. Check out the philosophy departments of the local CCs and see if they need any help.
For official job postings check out https://www.socccdjobs.com/ which includes all of the South Orange County Community College District. I see a position for a Humanities Instructor that you could apply for if you have a Masters.
I got a response!
Except, not really.
Here was the email:
I sent “Laura Kevin” the following response:

Actually, you should have corrected her letter and charged her $50…but send her a Nigerian check and tell her to cash the $50,000 and just send you back the $50.
