We're moving to Washington state!

::looks down:: Hey, Audrey, don’t you think that hole is deep enough already?
[sub]Don’t mind me, I just wanted to try out my new sig.[/sub]

Clam? I’m allergic to clams! Argh! [sub]Thanks, Geobabe[/sub]

Um, I’m sorry, Robot Arm. ::looks down, digs toe in carpet:: So you’re an Evergreen State alum, then? When I was checking into Washington state schools a couple months ago, ESU was one that popped up on the list. Did you like it there?

Thank you for the advice, pluto. We’re looking for places near KK’s school right now. I’ll be looking for a job as soon as we get there.

I suspect commuting won’t bother me much. I already do a fair amount of it, and spend a good chunk of time on it at that. But I’ll keep the commuting thing in mind, and try to find a place that works for us.

Oh, one other thing: is Chittenden Locks another name for Ballard? If not, where is Ballard?

The Chittenden Locks are part of the waterway that connects Lake Union to Puget Sound. It’s a nice spot to check out at least once, lots of small boat traffic through the locks and a fish ladder where you can watch the salmon during spawning season. Ballard is the neighborhood where the locks are located; it has a strong Scandanavian influence, but there’s a great Italian restaurant called Lombardi’s. If you look north from downtown Seattle, you’ll see the Space Needle and Queen Anne Hill, and just the other side of the hill is the ship canal and the Fremont neighborhood. From there, go a mile west and you’re in Ballard.

TESC (for The Evergreen State College) was a pretty nice school for me, but I don’t really have anything to compare it to. I think it’s much more laid-back and casual than most schools, and it’s only been around since the early 70s, so there’s not much of a sense of tradition (which can be good and bad). Of course, I noticed changes just during the time I was there, and I left in 1990, so it’s liable to be different than I remember.

Thanks, Robot Arm. It does sound nice. If we get the chance to visit Seattle before we move, that’s one area I’d like to check out. And Lombardi’s… I’m a sucker for good Italian food.

I’m looking forward to seeing the ferries. Oh, and Pike Place Market and Safeco Field.

[sub]::observes a moment of silence for the fallen Kingdome::[/sub]

Pike Place Market isn’t too touristy, is it? I’ve heard good things about it and I’m determined to make a trip there as soon as I can, but, being from Hawaii, I have a low tolerance for blatantly tourist-oriented places. What’s it like there?

HA, HA, HA, HA!!!

ROTFLMAO!

I’ll take that as a yes.

Hey.

Congrats. Glad to see things worked out. I’ll tip one back in hopes the good vibes continue.

Cheers.

A chance to meet you and Scotti, and you think I’d pass it up?? Darlin, if I’m concious this summer I will find a way to Vancouver & Seattle.

Cnote: Thanks very much for the well-wishes, hon. Hey, if you’re ever out in WA, come on out and see us, okay?

rob: Looking forward to it!

Question: Is there anywhere in the Kirkwood, Redmond, or Bellevue areas that isn’t all beautiful, idyllic, perfect places to live?

I mean, I have a cousin in WA who should be able to put me up for a week or so while I house hunt, but I’d like to have myself a short list of places to check out before I go up there (no point in wearing out my welcome, after all). And this naturally means cutting all the potentially non-perfect homes. So…any areas to avoid?
