And nothing about the knickers in a twist or shrill comments?
As a New Orleanean, I’m a little annoyed being behind Las Vegas. I suppose the legal brothels pushed them ahead.
No. If you have any further questions, please feel free to make a topic in ATMB or message a staff member.
You can also use the Pit, if you wish, if you have a problem with another posters’ post or topic.
Hahaha, no asking the OP of the thread questions about the OP of the thread! He specifically made this thread so he could brag about (in a non-braggy “I don’t even like that place!” kind of way) sex in his part of the world, but I can’t ask him if his vast lesbian sex show experience takes place in the place he made this thread to talk about? Even after he refused to answer questions in regards to the OP and told people to look through his posts for information? Priceless. Thank goodness you’re here to protect him from talking about his OP.
At least you’re consistent in your strange modding, Idle. Another thread where you can’t bring up links to discuss what the OP wanted to discuss. Awesome, as always.
Though those are not allowed in Clark County so you’d have to drive out like 50 miles away. But I suppose to whoever’s interested that’s close enough.
I’d never heard of Pattaya, except for stories about middle-aged and older, western men going overseas looking for teenage prostitutes. I’ve also heard the Domnican Republic mentioned, most famously when Rush Limbaugh went there with a jumbo bottle of viagra. Clearly, it’s not just some misperception.

So I’ll stand by my initial post in this thread.
Cite party! Hooray!
I’ve been to Berlin, Amsterdam and Pattaya.
I’ve also been to Bangkok. Why isn’t that on the list? I was there for three days, and two weeks in Pattaya, and from what I saw I prefer the Bangkok sex scene.
I’d place Amsterdam first, though. In Bangkok/ Pattaya the women are mostly Thai, and almost all Asian. Buit they come from all over the World t5o work in Amsterdam. Plus you can smoke or eat certain substances legally that would get you a long prison sentence in Thailand.
What about London? I’d put that above Berlin any day.
I know nothing about the other cities on the list.
I hope you see what I meant now about talking to a brick wall. These posters have the whole situation figured out, they desperately need to think they have it figured out, never mind that it’s completely divorced from the reality I’ve seen on the ground literally for decades now.
Do not waste your time. All you can do is ignore them. Or Ignore, if you catch my drift.
I don’t understand why you think that accounts of your personal experiences should somehow be convincing enough to cause disinterested observers to discard the results of investigative work that has been done on this topic by actual Thai public health officials. Instead of preemptively proclaiming that we will accept no evidence that you provide, why not actually try presenting some evidence first? That’s definitely the order I’d try things in.
Because Pattaya is a whole different animal. Sure, we have red-light districts in Bangkok, but there’s so much more to Bangkok. Pattaya keeps trying to introduce other tourist attractions and even lamely attempts from time to time to market it as a family destination if you can believe that. None of it takes. The city there is the sex industry.
In Bangkok, it’s hidden to some extent, shunted off onto side streets and sois (lanes) where most Thais don’t even go, although recently it’s started spilling over into some of the main streets. Even lower Sukhumvit Road, where the freelancers roam, most don’t come out until late at night. I’ve actually known Thais who have even been unaware there is a local scene, and I don’t think they were kidding. (These were very few indeed though.)
But there are similar Thai-oriented scenes such as the “Thai Patpong” area of Suthisan Road in the Saphan Khwai are and Soi Udom way down on Sukhumvit. “Same same but different,” as they say here. To take a look at those, you can look at the Archives of the Midnite Hour website (www.bangkokeyes.com) but specifically MIDNITE HOUR - Bangkok Eyes for Suthisan and
MIDNITE HOUR - Bangkok Eyes for Soi Udom.
Farangs (Westerners) are welcome, but you don’t see many. You really need to speak some Thai. But I’ve never felt threatened at all in these areas. (I’ve uncoded the links because while mild, they’re still slightly NSFW.)
Even then, Bangkok is huge, one of the largest cities in the world, but Pattaya is rather small albeit growing. Pattaya is the one with the rep.
Okay, well I tried to break the links, but while it took on Preview, it came back after I posted. They’re really not all that NSFW, but it’s probably best if a Mod could break those for me again. Thanks.
Yes, it’s rather a contradiction on the surface. The Western-oriented scene does date to the Vietnam War days of R&R. That’s when Patpong really kicked off. The CIA airline Air America even had their offices there. The still-running Madrid Bar was a CIA hangout, eventually co-owned by CIA legend Tony Poe, who some believe was loosely the model for Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now.)
But there was prostitution and concubinage long before that. Some say the Chinese brought it with them, but I think it’s just an extension of an even earlier Siamese tradition of minor wives. I may be wrong, possibly the Chinese did introduce it some centuries ago, but I believe the early Siamese royalty and nobility did have a tradition of multiple wives. Not sure about prostitution in those days.
Since you seem a reasonable sort, I’ll answer you, Blank Slate, by pointing out it says 40% of prostitutes in Thailand are children but does not say 40% in Pattaya are children. Thailand is a big country, in the neighborhood size-wise of, say, Texas or France. The police have done wonders in cleaning up the Western child-prostitution scene. These days, as I’ve detailed elsewhere on this Board, Western pedophiles almost all go to Cambodia, and good riddance to them. Any still stupid enough to try that in Thailand stand a high chance of being caught and paraded before the media.
Unfortunately, the authorities have been lax in the area of Thais visiting child prostitutes. Why is that? Largely an image thing. Thailand was under the spotlight internationally, and the authorities got tired of the bad publicity. I know, I know, they were worried about one seedy image while quietly promoting the overall scene? Yes, that’s pretty much it, and that’s one of those many contradictions one sees in Thailand every day. Now I’m not going to say it’s impossible to find an underage prostitute in a Western-oriented bar, but you would have to look hard. Of the many bar and brothel owners I know and have known over the decades, they would not touch this with a 10-foot pole. (So to speak, heh.) I think it’s a shame the authorities don’t crack down on the Thais visiting child prostitutes, but hopefully they eventually will.
Also as mentioned in other threads, my wife is a demographer/statistician for the government. A C9-level civil servant, which is rather a senior position. She has been in her office for 28 years now and was part of the team that took a prostitute census about 20 years ago I think it was. What with all the problems of even defining “prostitute” in so many cases, what with all the part-timers and second-jobbers, they were only able to come up with a figure of I think it was 200,000. They freely admitted this was an undercount, but that’s what their data showed, so what can you do? They did what they were tasked with doing as best they could. The wife has also worked in this area with Thai public-health officials. (Indeed, one of her two master’s degrees is in Biostatistics, which she obtained at the University of Hawaii, where we met, and she is often called upon for public-health-related statistical work just like what you are citing. Again, this has been mentioned in other threads.)
So there you go, Blank Slate. I hope that answers some of your questions. I don’t know if I have answers to all of your questions you might have. But I answered you because you don’t try to violate the Don’t Be a Jerk rule. The type who do violate it tend to go straight onto Ignore, because I simply cannot be bothered with that sort of thing.
I’ve been to six of those ten places and, yep, the most outrageous stuff I saw in all of them, I saw in Pattaya. Not a place I yearn to return to visit, either.
Personally I say go for 3 times mentioning the ignore list and why people go on it even though it’s against the rules, why stop at 2?
Looking at that midnighthour.com website is an exercise in keeping your lunch down but seeing the pic of their ace reporter William R. Morledge is both hilarious and frightening as hell. He looks exactly like I’d think an expert on this stuff would look and yet after seeing his hideous grinning face I fear I won’t sleep tonight. If that is what these poor girls are earning their money by talking to/getting with they are seriously underpaid whether they are underage, middle aged, or on death’s door. Yikes.
This thread has moved off course. I suggested an image search to get a tiny glimpse of Pattaya’s reason for the reputation it has earned. Those images are mostly of prostitutes and tourists, but understand that not all of the girls (or men) having sex in Pattaya are prostitutes. That place is a party town beyond easy description.
Sex is everywhere in Pattaya, paid for or free. I hooked up with female tourists easier there than any other place I’ve ever been. Hooked up with local girls who thought I looked good and just wanted to party. So we did. Why not? I was a single, fun guy at the time. Any city with a known nightlife district creates an environment for hooking up. Bangkok and Pattaya are just those types of places.
Not all the prostitutes are forced into this lifestyle, either. Many (most?) choose it willingly, freely, and without coercion. Siam Sam can probably address Thai culture and attitudes towards sexuality better than I can. They view things differently than we do here in the West.
Talking about or referring to who is and isn’t on your “Ignore List” is only allowed in the Pit. Do not post like this again outside of there.
And also, let the mods decide who is breaking that rule or not. If you feel a post is in violation of the rules, then report it.
I’ve been to 4 of those places. I gotta say, Pattaya is so many orders of magnitude higher by the ‘sin’ criteria (gambling, sex, drinking, drugs and/or partying) than the other 3 I’ve been to, it is in a whole other category in my opinion. Just no comparison, and no surprises to me that it hit #1
I think you have to expend at least some effort to find your sin(s) of choice in other places, or at least there’s other non-sinful things to do in other places, while in Pattaya, you have to expend lots of effort to avoid the sins - it’s all out there, constant, in your face, unavoidable
Certainly. Will do.
