Boy, do I remember that commercial! The following is not authoritative, but should be pretty accurate:
This is serious
We can make you delirious
You should have a healthy fear of us
Too much of us is dangerous
No, no, no, no…
Doctors at the pharmacy
Give the pills that you will need
They know the harm that we can be
If we’re not taken carefully
No, no, no, no…
We’re not candy
Even though we may look fine and dandy
When you’re sick we come in handy,
But…we’re not candy…ohhhhh no…
Looking back, that “Doctors” line might be “Doctors and the pharmacy”, since doctors don’t work in pharmacies. And the line following that might be slightly off. But I’m pretty certain that I got the rest of the song right.
“Sherlock Holmes once said that once you have eliminated the
impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be
the answer. I, however, do not like to eliminate the impossible.
The impossible often has a kind of integrity to it that the merely improbable lacks.”
– Douglas Adams’s Dirk Gently, Holistic Detective
Well this wasn’t really a PSA, IIRC…but does anyone remember Neil Diamond’s anti-pot song?
Hilarious.
“My Accountz Reeceevable Posse don’t call me Tha Troubleshoota for nothin’. Suckas think I be chillin’, but I gots to represent at all times, 'cuz ain’t nobody else reeceeve accountz right but ME.” --Herbert Kornfeld
IIRC it was,
Even though we look so fine and dandy.
Otherwise, cmk’s right on the money.
A fellow Gen-Xer and I were singing this not long ago and were surprised that a clip of this commercial isn’t sitting in someone’s web archive somewhere. I put a message on the ToonTracker message board but everyone looked at me like it was some sort of fever dream I had.
Lemme know if you find it!
Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you. Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.
