And if I’m not mistaken, US Postal Service, UPS, Fed Ex and other non-passenger air travel is also resuming, so there’s that.
Also, military and charter flights are carrying firefighting and search/rescue teams to NYC and DC, so that traffic is also in the air.
The news media is making it sound like the airways are completely vacant except for fighter jets but this isn’t exactly the case.
Last night, 'round 6:00pm central, two F-16s screamed overhead and another two (maybe the same ones) came by about 10 minutes later. I’m in Dallas and there’s a National Guard air base just west of Fort Worth. Haven’t seen any today, though.
The windows on my house flexed from that boom.

For over 24 hours now planes from Peterson Field have been flying around here…the problem is, the Air Force has them at such hieghts that you can’t see them in the day light, at night with there flight lights I can see them but not the daytime. They are just freakin high up.
Since it’s so quiet around here (our traffic is about half of what it usually is on a Wednesday) you can hear them so clearly as if they were flying at 20,000 feet instead of 40,000 or more feet.
I haven’t seen any helicopters and I think most of what is up there are transport and F16s. Having lived here for 28 years of my 33 year old life, you get to know the difference in how they sound. How sick is that?
Course understand I also can pick out the UPS truck from the FedEx truck driving up the street, guess I learned it from my dog! LOL
As it turns out, a small plane was doing government work–they just forgot to clear it with the proper authorities. That’s why two f-16s came screaming across the sky, having been dispatched from a national guard unit north of here. They left after ascertaining the small plane was not a threat.
So they’re doing real protection. 
i went outside at noon today and heard a very loud explosion. No crash sounds no sirens. I continue to hear planes flying over my condo headed northeast about every 2 minutes. what is going on???
