We're THE BEST Message Board On The Internet, So WHY.....

Every recipe would include bacon.

Past thread.

Funny cuz it’s true.

How is this different than any other cookbook?

-D/a, who impressed his friends by meeting the “Bacon Ice Cream” challenge.

You clearly already have the logo in image files. Make a Zazzle account and port the image file onto a coffee mug at the very least. If you don’t get at least one sale, I’ll eat my hat. (Not any of the nice ones of course.) Seriously.

So far, while flying back home, I have had 3 recognitions of my t-shirt, none of them regulars, but think of how much interest (not to mention revenue) we could generate for us and our server?

We just need some admins and mods to promote this!

Come on now, we can DO this!

Don’t we ROCK?

I believe we DO!

Quasi

What’s the big concern here? Do you think TPTB would not permit you (or anyone) from using their own font and/or logo for legal reasons?

This would be an interesting case. TPTB have no money. Never have. BUT WAIT! They would spend as much as possible on legal fees to fight off the **Quasimodems **of the world that were putting their logo on a coffee mug and… doing what, exactly? Ruining the reputation of the board? no… Profiting from the board without the board’s permission? Well, not if you put any money you made from the enterprise into a separate account, never touch it, and can prove that your only plan for the money was to donate it to the company that is currently suing you.

Exactly how many law suits would TPTB really be interested in fighting, especially when they are so expensive? Even a corporate attorney, who is presumably salaried, will have to spend time on this nonsense, thereby costing the parent company money. At some point in this process, isn’t someone going to ask WTF are we suing **Quasi **et. al. for again? Selling t-shirts and coffee cups with our name and logo on it and giving us the proceeds?

Damn those kids! They should all burn for this! Keep on filing the lawsuits, and hire a few temps if you have to so you aren’t buried in paperwork.

Personally, since I mentioned it here, I would never consider joining any such crusade, since I wouldn’t want to be accused of starting a mutiny of sorts. But I can’t be everyone’s conscious, either. My real advice is, don’t do anything that might cause you or your family any embarrassment or extra money by doing something logical. It will never work, and you will be the laughing stock of TBTB’s next meeting.

All kidding aside, this has come up a number of times on this board, and there is never any real reason given as to why it can’t (or won’t) be done. This thread points again to a number of people with great (and not so great - just standard) ideas that would cost virtually nothing to set up and yet potentially raise cash for the board’s long term survival.

The only conclusion(s) one can make from this strange policy is (are) that 1) this board’s log term survival is no longer in jeopardy and 2) TPTB hate the logo, and seeing it in any form at any time would cause some or all of them to throw an embarrassing public fit.

Other than that, I got nuthin’. Which means, I got nuthin’.

Well I thought you had something, SFP (sorry, but I can’t bering myself to write your whole name without gagging! :)) You are very good at satire, one of my favorite literary genres, and I appreciate your taking the time to explain. I have often wondered the same thing.

About the board being in jeopardy, though: I don’t think we’ll ever be without TSDMB, although I could be wrong. This is one of the few luxuries I allow myself anymore, and I’d gladly pay more for my membership.

Thanks

Q

I’ve never heard the word “Dope” used to mean anything except marijuana, someone under the effects of a drug, or a stupid person.

I appreciate it might have been different in the US in the past, but 1973 was nearly 40 years ago so the usage you’re suggesting almost belongs in the same category as the word “Swell”- ie, unless you’re one of the characters in Mad Men or Pleasantville, you probably shouldn’t be using it that way except in a retro-ironic sense. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re right, it is an archaic phrase, isn’t it, and I do find myself explaining, when I tell someone about my favorite message board, that, “it has nothing to do with drugs”.

“Retro-ironic”: A new word to me. I’ll have to remember it.

Thanks

I would be open to do a few designs, pro-bono… just sayin’…

Not all of us are U2 fans.

But are you fully anti-bono?

Sorry, there would be too many sales and not enough employees to process the piles of money that would come in.

There’s an old ATMB thread that indicated that management would be sympathetic to a t-shirt fundraiser at cafe press or whatever, provided they had veto power. The problem was that while many were enthusiastic about the idea of SD knick-knacks, there was a dearth of volunteer designers. (I submitted one design, which would have been fine and well were it not for the fact that I suck artistically).

Anyway, here’s one theme:

Cite?

Another might involve an appropriate cartoon by slug. That’s actually a little tricky as they tend to be focused on one particular Cecil article or another.
Ah, I see it was from an Apr 2009 thread. Here’s my lame image:

Back when they sold stuff, this is what the back of the T shirts looked like:

And here is the masthead: http://wm55.inbox.com/thumbs/13_130bab_a464f83_oG.gif.thumb

Just as I suspected… I’m invisible.

I still have my SDMB mug. Is it now valuable?

I was talking about Sonny!

Your links aren’t loading for me for some reason. There’s a link to my work on my profile page, although, it’s mostly broadcast/motion/film work now. Just a thought. I like this place and have been here for a long time, it’d be nice to pitch in a little of what I do for a livin’.

I’m about due for a new coffee mug, yeah.

Maybe we can get them to sell a bucket of apostrophes on the cheap.
