There is going to be a movie based on the West Memphis Three . While I think this is great news from the aspect that it may raise awareness among people who don’t watch documentary films or read non fiction , I do hope that the producers (same as the Paradise Lost documentaries) don’t sacrifice too much by way of dramatic license (each of the characters has an incredible and relevant backstory and how they’ll work that into a non-mini-series format is beyond me) and legal department hawks (they stand to be sued by everybody associated with the crimes and investigations). Nevertheless, I’ll definitely see it opening weekend.
Thoughts?
Well, if the Paradise Lost producers themselves are behind it then I have high hopes for it. Based on their documentary work, I’d imagine (or hope) that the producers would treat the story with respect and not “Hollywood-ize” it to death. Although turning their story into a movie DOES seem nearly impossible given the possiblity of lawsuits.
It’s certainly an intriguing idea and would defintely raise awareness and bring the whole affair back into the public spotlight, as Sampiro said.
I hope it does get off the ground and into production because I’d love to see it in theaters.
Here’s another great West Memphis 3 site:WM3
As much of a preachy turd as Henry Rollins can be lately, I think I read he is donating all his profits from his current tour to a WM3 fund – I think that’s pretty cool.
The first two HBO documentaries were really well done. I also have high hopes for this movie.
