West Wing: Equinox* (SPOILERS)

I suppose, but what did he have to be passionate about?

I actually liked Matthew Perry in this episode, for the first time since somewhere around season 3 of Friends.

Maybe I’m just paranoid because I SO do not want to see Donna and Josh get together, but I was getting a feeling of barely suppressed sexual tension when Josh was initially about to go into the interview room, like they were standing a little too still and a little too close for a little too long. Crap.

The Pres., Leo and Russian guy exchanges were masterpieces.

JB’s telling the SS guys, “Charlie’s on his way and you’re nuts if you think he’s not going to overpower anyone you put in his way to find out if I’m okay,” followed by Charlie immediately shoving his way through the door was really very touching. I really admire the relationship those two have.

I also really admired how Charlie had nothing to come back with when Zoey nailed him with the 3 months in Stinkyland is the first chance in something like 15 years she will have had to be out of the limelight for a while agrument. He could have said, “At least you just need a vacation and you’re not in love with the guy,” but instead he chose to just shut up and stand up. Of course, I think he would have gotten more cool points if he would have answered her, “Why do you care,” with something like, “Because I love you. Always have, always will,” and just turned and walked back inside, but Charlie’s uber-cool points were already off the charts this episode.

Air Force uniforms look goofy in general, but particularly on Will.

CJ’s positive attitude and open expression of faith, or “trust”, if you will, was as refreshing and warming as it was unbelieveable from someone with her background and experiences.

Yeah, this was fun.

I did love Charlie’s charging into the Oval - Charlie rocks - as well as POTUS’ concern for everyone. And I enjoyed the poker game, despite it being so weird for the staff to be hanging out at the WH on a Friday night, just because I’ve missed the camaderie we used to see back in the first season and it was nice to have some of that back.

I’m having a bit of a hard time buying Will as an Air Force guy, but it’s probably a good thing as it helps distinguish him from Jeremy of Sports Night.

Liked the faith/trust theme - it’s one of Sorkin’s trademark themes, actually - although I wasn’t crazy about the egg thing. (And I was disappointed they didn’t mention the easy trick to making an egg stand on one end - spill some salt on the table and balance it in the salt.) Also, one of the websites they cited was “thingsthatarewrong.com”, which doesn’t seem to be real, but I gotta say I love the name.

Don’t like the Charlie/Zoey romance much. Don’t like Donna flirting with an endless string of Republicans. Don’t like Ainsley being officially gone. (I’ll just pretend she went to work with Sam, wherever he is…) Don’t like the new guy being an Ainsley retread (Yeah, blah blah Republican working in a Democrat White House out of a sense of duty, how SHOCKING!) And does anyone else remember the first season ep where the staff went to L.A. and Matthew Perry appeared as Matthew Perry?

Codeword clearance

When C.J., Toby, and Will come into the Oval Office after the sniper fire, Will must step outside because he doesn’t have “codeword clearance.” Evidently C.J. and Toby (and everyone else in the room) do. The same phrase has been used in several other episodes. It is obviously a high-level security clearance, but exactly what is it and who gets it?

Presumably, you have to wait a while to get that security clearance.

Even if your father was the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO.

I think it would have been funny if someone had said, “Yeah, I miss her too. Didn’t she move to Miami or something?” That would have been hilarious.

When Will talks about the case he is going to Cheyenne to work on (soldiers in missle silo question order to launch nuke) reminded me of the similar scenario at the beginning of War Games which featured (IIRC) John Spencer (aka Leo)!

[sub]sorry for the overlong sentence.[/sub]

Am I losing my mind, or was there big hype about somebody being kidnapped on West Wing?
I thought it was supposed to be in this episode.
Maybe that was a promo for the big season finale?

Assuming I heard it correctly, my guess is Zoey.

My guess is Hoynes will snap after Chandler Bing, Esq. digs up whatever tasty nugget is going to get the VP in trouble, kidnap him, torture him with the new Phoebe Whatsername CD and then be forced to resign after Donna and Chef Monica Geller-Bing bribe him out with cookies.

Man, I’m really really sleepy right now.

You did hear correctly. And, man, I hope it’s not Zoey. She already got shot at back in the Season 1 finale and a retread would just be lame, but you’re probably right.

Maybe Zoe’s boyfriend will be the kidnapper, since Charlie is already suspicious of him…

I didn’t start watching WW until partway through season 2. I can’t believe all the stuff I missed from Season 1 that I keep finding out about piecemeal. I knew Josh and Jed got hit, but I didn’t realize anyone else got shot.

My gods, how many rounds did shooter boy get off before SS intervened? Was anyone else hit? Are they going to put this thing out on DVD so those of us who missed a bit can catch up and atone for our WW ignorance?

Season 1 has been out on DVD for about a year. You can find it on eBay.

You mean back in the end-of-season-1 cliffhanger? Josh took a hit to the chest and could’ve easily died. Jed’s injuries were comparatively minor. Ron Butterfield (the Secret Service head guy, who we saw in this ep - the one with the mustache) had a bullet through his hand. And one or two random bystanders in the crowd were hit.

I try to keep up with WW news, and as far as I know, the first season is out on DVD only in Europe, so unless you have a DVD player that can handle that you’re SOL for a while. If you’re really interested, it’s not too hard to find someone online who’ll make copies of taped eps for you - I started watching at the end of season 2 and that’s what I did. It was completely worth it, the first two seasons are really great.
