Westmont bookstore, A Novel Experience ATTENTION CHICAGO DOPERS!

A reader of my novel, Sailor of the Skysea, recently got in touch with me and told me about a struggling bookstore in his neighborhood, A Novel Experience (8 N Cass Ave, Westmont IL). He asked if I had any extra paperback copies that I could send. I was a bit skeptical, but I figured what the hell- worst thing I lose is a few copies that I can get cheap anyway- so I sent a stack to the bookstore. This will be the first brick-and-mortar bookstore (that I know of) in which my book will be offered. According to UPS they arrived yesterday.

Has anyone ever been to this bookstore? And if anyone happens to go in the near future, could you look/ask to see if my book is displayed?

Check it out and like my page if you like the page:

Damn… I was waiting patiently for some Chicago doper to see if my book was actually displayed, and I get spam. Damn you spammers.

I think you’re probably going to get more traction on this in Cafe Society … let me move it there.

While we want to be supportive of Dopers in their artistic pursuits and we love authors, usually we ask you to clear requests like this with us before you flog your book on this site. And, since you are a Member, you can talk about it in Marketplace as well.

Hope it goes well.

Understood, and thank you.

Never been there, but I can stop by tomorrow and check it out. If it’s there, I’ll take a picture of it.

Great! I’ll be looking forward to it.

Okay, I stopped there today around noon. The store is pretty tiny and packed full of books - very much a small indie store. The lady working there, presumably the owner, asked if there was anything I was looking for and right as she asked, I saw the stack of books on the front counter. I said that you were excited about the book being in the store and I had promised to get a picture of them for you. She said she hadn’t had the time yet to put them up but would right then. So she put them out and I took this picture of them! Sorry about the crappy quality, I didn’t know if I was going to have to get a stealth-shot so I only had my phone on me.
Anyway, there it is! Enjoy!

Wonderful! Thanks so much. Now I’m so glad I donated the books. I hope they sell out quick, and other readers ask if she has them, and she orders more from me, and other stores start to get requests, and word spreads, and I become a famous author, and Hollywood or HBO comes knocking, and there’s a studio bidding war, and I become a millionaire, and I inspire countless other authors…

Well hell, that’s not too far from my parent’s and practically next door to one of the best Chinese restaurants in Chicagoland. I think I may just have to drop on in and pick me up a copy of your book next time I’m out that way.

I hope you enjoy it, zoid!

No problem, glad I can help.
