You know, those shots where the person looks like they’re weightless. See the latest Eminem music video I need a doctor at around 4m 4s in, for example, where Selena Gomez kinda floats around.
I love that bit by the way.
I’m pretty sure they filmed it underwater (there’s a bit around 2 minutes where she’s pretty obviously swimming) but I haven’t been able to find much information on this technique online, however. How to you keep your eyes open underwater? How do you open your mouth underwater without bubbles escaping? Won’t all that cloth trap *some *bubbles? Or is that all removed post processing?
Edit to add: For that matter, waterproof makeup? waterproof mascara? That’s some pretty heavy duty stuff there.
I can’t watch the video at the moment, but if you’re thinking Selena Gomez is in an Eminem video, you’re very much mistaken (THAT’D be the day…)
Also, if you want to see a video which was definitely filmed underwater with all the bubbles and such edited out to appear strange, that would be Portishead’s Only You, directed by the incomparable Chris Cunningham.
I don’t know about in other movies or TV, but in that one it looks like they filmed her in a large water tank with the lights off, except for a spotlight shining down on her in the front. Notice they cut the water scene every 3 seconds or so, plenty of time for her to hold her breath and do another take.
In the Doctor Who episode (Tenth Doctor) “The Satan Pit”, sequel to “The Impossible Planet”, there is a scene of a dead character floating off into airless space from the surface of a small planet (asteroid?). This was later revealed to have been filmed underwater as explained in the corresponding episode of “Doctor Who Confidential.”
