What 2006 sedans have pedal extenders?

My mother-in-law has appointed me her official Internet researcher. Some things I know how to find out, but others stump me: I don’t know where to turn or how to Google them.

But I know that all knowledge is contained on the Straight Dope, so I turn to y’all.

The question she asked me is as follows:

Does anyone know how to answer this question? I’ve never even heard of a pedal extender prior to this email, and Googling it gets me a bunch of crap. Car Talk has a few interesting links – http://www.pedalextenders.com/ looks promising, but I’m not sure what the hell most of the site is talking about (are the extenders they sell universal? What’s going on with the different pages devoted to different makes of car?) Same thing with http://www.handcontrolscorp.com/ – it looks as if they’re selling kits, but I can’t find the page that has actual sales.

Any help would be appreciated!
Daniel

You’d thank me for mentioning a chunk of two-by-four and a bungie cord?
You are easy this morning!

You’re focusing on the word “appreciated” and not on the word “help,” I think ;).

Is this about a new car purchase?

I think your talking about adjustable peddles. Both the gas and break peddle move forward or back about 4”.

My Wife is a bit shorter, so she can move the peddles forward and move the seat back. This helps her keep away from the air-bag.

I’m quite tall, I can move the peddles forward and move the seat back and have enough room to comfortably, and safely drive.

They aren’t ‘extendable’ they are adjustable. A little button on the dash does the trick.

This is not an aftermarket. It is an option on some cars. One that I will look for on my next vehicle.

I would look for the size of vehicle she wants first, and then see if it offers the option.

Yep–she’s buying a new car. Adjustable pedals may be what she’s looking for. Is there any way to find a list of 2006 sedans that offer them?

Thanks!
Daniel

I think some of the Fords I was looking at a few years ago had adjustable pedals. The Taurus (which is out of production now) and the Focus. Not 100$ sure on these, because it was a while back, but I hope that leads you in the right direction.

And by $ I mean %

:smack:

Can’t tell you that. First I would find out what kind of car she needs.

Small, large, 2 door 4 door, SUV, miniVan, whatever.

Then consider price, and reliability, safety, MPG.

Many SUV’s offer the adjustable peddles, but I only know that because I am looking at buying a new SUV. I suspect that many sedans have the option as well.

Not about pedal extenders, but this article lists the best cars for short people on page 2.

I can tell you for a fact the Chevy Malibu has them.

The 2006 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan have adjustable pedals.

The Lexus ES330 has them.

The latest Hyundai Sonata and Elantra have movable pedals as an option.

Thanks, all–this is great! I’ll pass this information along to her.
