“Amos ‘n’ Andy”
I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody tried to do an “I Love Lucy” movie based on the premise that a producer was trying to remake it as a TV show and was looking for people to cast as Lucy and Ricky, sort of like the “Bewitched” movie from a few years ago.
I can see Debra Messing messing that up.
There are constant rumors that The Prisoner will be made into a movie, with many discussions on casting and the appropriate director, but it still languishes in development limbo. I have no idea what the current rumor is, but it is more likely than not to fall apart before filming begins; even the remake of the television series is a no-go.
not in the past twenty years, of course (who really wants to commit suicide?), but there WAS an Amos and Andy movie – Check and Double Check*
It was RKO’s biggest hit until King Kong
- A catch phrase from the radio show. How many of us knew that bit of still-common slang came from Amos ‘n’ Andy?
I actually have a copy of that movie. Pretty forgettable, especially if your basis for the characters was the TV program instead of radio–although there was one part that gave me a chuckle: Kingfish lines up a taxi job for A&A. It’s going to be worth 20. Kingfish thinks he is entitled to a 10% cut of the 20, and goes into some long convoluted math that ends up showing that his 10% is going to amount to $12.
And with a running time of 2:49, the title was very misleading.
But the theme song was so catchy…
Laverne & Shirley

The Bob Newhart Show
The Jeffersons
One Day At A Time

The Dick Van Dyke Show
Tell me about it. I’m still humming it.
hmhmhmhmhmhmhmhmhmhmhmhm.
Sky King
Route 66
Welcome Back, Kotter
The Real McCoys
Couldn’t you say that Hogan’s Heroes was a take off of Stalag 17?
I know they did a few made-for-TV “Rockford Files” movies a few years back, but no feature films that I know of.
Heh. I wonder how they’d handle Space:1999 now?
I might actually like to see that one.
Ah, someone from my generation.
How about
Ripcord
Whirlybirds
Love that Bob,
December Bride (and its spinoff, Pete and Gladys, starring Harry Morgan from the Dragnet remake and Mash)
Rawhide
Rocky Jones, Space Ranger. Now that could be good, with some decent special effects.
BTW, Kolchak started as two made for TV movies written by Richard Matheson.
I liked The Fall guy and Rockford Files.
So could Captain Video. And Moonbase 3 (does BBC count?).
Oh, and UFO! I want a UFO movie!
And The Invaders!
So, they tried Electra Woman and Dyna Girl on TV and it didn’t take. Maybe it’s due for the big screen treatment?
Oh, and how about Here Come the Doubledeckers!?
I loved that show when I was 6.
What about Peter Gunn? It has arguably the most famous TV theme music of all time, yet I’ve never actually seen it broadcast, much less turned into a movie. Why is that?
How about a Beany and Cecil movie? ![]()
