Well, they’re making another “Scooby Doo” movie. And “Starsky & Hutch” has just premiered. (IMO, a movie poking fun of the homoerotic subtext of “S&H” is just plain redundant.) It’s about time we throw up our collective hands, and simply accept the fact that hollywood will NEVER stop recycling old t.v. shows to make into movies. We can look forward (or dread - sic) to eventually seeing a “Seinfeld” movie making fun of the retro-1990s, and possibly starring Jason Schwartzman as Jerry Seinfeld.
My question is what is the WORST POSSIBLE idea for an old tv show turned into a movie, rather than what was the worst execution of that idea yet?
For some strange reason, after watching an ad for the “Starsky & Hutch” movie, the thought flashed through my mind of an “Elektra-Woman & Dyna-Girl” movie, with say Michelle Pfeiffer and Sarah Michelle Gellar in the title roles. The idea of it was not nearly as horrific as knowing that eventually it will likely happen. What’s the show you’re dreading seeing at the multiplex?
Well, I never saw it, but I heard that the movie The Beverly Hillbillies with Cloris Leachman as Granny and Jim Varney as Jed sucked toads. I can believe it.
I was being funny. Really I get the OP and would say perhaps Rockford Files because that show worked because of Jim Garner and … say Jim Carey …in the role would simply crap it up.
I don’t think the humor of Sanford and Son or Chico and the Man would be all that humorous these days.
But I don’t think you could do worse than Mr. Ed. Starring the hilarious voice antics of Robin Williams as Wilbur. Wilbur would of course of course have to be really shitty CGI.
Howzabout “Pink Lady and Jeff Go To Japan”?
or
“Ask Mr. Wizard” with Gov. Ahnuld in the starring role.
or
“Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood’s Zombie Holocaust” by Wes Craven, natch
or
“Bikini Babes Meet Dragnet”
or
“The Honeymooners Go XXX” with Ron Jeremy as Ralph and Marilyn Chambers as Alice. Gives whole new meaing to the phrase “To the Moon, Alice!”
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that every one we make fun of in this thread has already been pitched to Hollywood. I Dream of Jeannie is being discussed, with Jessica Simpson being considered for Jeannie.
