Why is he acting like juvenile delinquency is unprecedented? The very term for it is archaic, (more than 20 years…40 years old, at least), that should answer his question right there.
Are dumb threads unprecedented? 
Older than that even. I remember sitting around my friend’s backyard in 1962, talking about this kid or that who had a JD card. Rebel Without a Cause was made in the early '50s. I suspect most of those kids got crap jobs, got married, and are retired today.

But, to his credit, “thug” has been pretty contemporaneous in hip-hop/gangsta rap slang for at least seven years now. 3.8 million Google hits for “thug lyrics” can’t be wrong.

Thug comes from the sanskrit thugee and is at least 750 years old. Cite.

As for teaching… yeah, I’m out… but I can’t seem to get away from it. Shit’s in my blood, I guess. What was supposed to be a career change looks more like a de facto sabbatical. I’ll probably be teaching again next school year in a charter school or homeschooling capacity.
