Who was that journalist that would select people from the phone book randomly, go find them, and make a personal interest news story about their lives.
He never had a hard time finding interesting things to talk to them about. People all contain amazing stories and experiences and it’s really cool to hear them talk.
I don’t know who that was, but a Seattle Times reporter used to highlight obituaries of interesting people, take them out of the obit section and into the Lifestyle section. She did that for my brother, after seeing the humorous obit my son wrote for him. Denny would have liked it.
My grandparents were a lot like that. Grandma had overcome at least a half-dozen injuries and illnesses that really should have killed her. She succumbed to the very next one after my grandfather passed away (about four months later).
They were in a car accident when they were in their 80s. They shared a room in intensive care, and talked the nurses into rearranging the furniture so that they could hold hands in their hospital beds.
That was just lovely.
