What about Saudia Arabia, Mr. Bush?

Well? What ABOUT Saudi Arabia?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Saudi Arabia is a big country with lotsa oil. Texas Tea. Black gold.

I like pie.

My cat’s breath smells like cat food.
I’ve been waiting for a chance to use that.

I LOVE pie.

[redneck] Isn’t Saudi Arabia on of dem thar Middler Eastern countries or sumthin?[/redneck]

Looks like the hamsters got another one…or Bush has developed a new internet censoring program to silence political views different from him…nah he wouldn’t do that…or would he?

When come back, bring pie!

We can all agree the the rein of Saddam Hussein in Iraq has caused great poverty to the people of that country, and that his removal and replacement by a democratic regime would be a vast, vast improvement. I’m not so sure that going to war with them is the best solution, but the goal is certainly a great one.

So, where is the indignation towards the Saudi monarchy, who benefit to the tune of billions of dollars in oil revenue, with a seemingly complete lack of caring for the many poor people of their nation? Am I to assume that they will be next on the list after we rid the world of Hussein? Of course not. So please, Mr. Bush, use whatever arguments you must, just be honest about them, and stop trying to convince us you give a damn about the Iraqi people.

The Saudis may be major league SOBs but they don’t appear to be particularly imperialistic (threatening oil supplies), nor does their government present an apparent threat to the US. Sure, some Saudi citizens feel the need to attack us, but it doesn’t appear to be organized or funded directly by the government.

I don’t think any future fighting in Iraq will have a single thing to do with improving the average Iraqis life, I also don’t recall Bush saying he gives a whit about the Iraqi people.

and thank goodness the evil cake people are staying out of this discussion… pie rules!

Are you kidding? Bush can barely tie his shoes! If Clinton was still in office, we’d have an honest, forthright statesman who could handle such difficult questions of policy with aplomb; but this tongue-tied hillbilly can’t be expected to pick his nose without assistance.

Brought to you by the makers of the Official SDMB ghillie Suit. “When you Want to Blend In, Only an SDMBGS Will Do.”

I am shocked, Sir, shocked, that the blessing of democracy that the President wishes to bestow on the good people of Iraq and not being forced on the good people of Saudi Arabia.

For Pete’s sake, get a grip. As the Regan Administration recognized, there are totalitarian states and there are authoritarian states. If the government plays ball with us they are merely authoritarian and our friends. If the government does not play ball with us they are totalitarian (and for this week only probably terror supporting as well) and they are part of the Axis of Evil (copyright, Marvel Comics, 1956). This is not pin the tail on the donkey where every one gets an equal chance. This is big power politics where today’s pariah is tomorrow’s bosom buddy. Saudi Arabia is our bosom buddy and will be as long as (1) it plays ball according to our rules and (2) it has oil, and (3) we need their oil.

What kind of pie?

Saudi Arabia is our bosom buddy and will be as long as (1) it plays ball according to our rules and (2) it has oil, and (3) we need their oil.

Exactly. That is why we will never attack them, so long as the above is true. If the US were as dependent upon Iraq, the US would never risk inducing chaos by attacking them. And Cheesesteak, while Bush may not have made an overt expression of his caring for the Iraqi people, when he addresses the UN, and mentions Saddam’s gassing of his own people, and uses that in part for a reason to get rid of Saddam, he is implying such caring. But I don’t buy it.

Key lime or Pecan.

Otherwise, I’m out.

Oh, and Gelding, please don’t think for a moment that I am not aware of why Saudia Arabia and Iraq are treated differently. I am well aware of why this so, and, rest assured, my grip is quite secure on this issue.

Which is, of course, your right; but it makes your choice of username rather…ironic, doesn’t it?

Pierony.

Apotheosis, first off, thanks for not using any lame-ass pie references. And secondly, although for some reason I don’t seem to express my cynicism clearly on the SDMB, my username is intended to be nothing if not ironic.

LOWERCASE “a”, if you please!

It’s not just Reznor-esque self-degrading angst, it’s a tribute to e.e. cummings.

I tried to get ‘pie iesu’ in as a dual tribute to pie and Monty Python’s Holy Grail…but it just wasn’t panning out.

Pie…pan…Geddit? I kill me.

What you talkin about? Pie ain’t square. Cornbread’s square - pie’r round!
