To all you computer experts!
I am trying to download a file for a PC game I play, and once downloaded my PC won’t install it. It tells me I don’t have the necessary program to do so.
What do I need to install and use a .iff file?
I am quite clueless in computers so if you could make it simple, it will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
Could be any one of a dozen or so different things, according to filext.com.
ummmm? yeah, my PC has redirected me to that web site Q.E.D. it doesn’t make any sense to me.
Oh well, thank you for your help! I’ll live without an extra cheat in my game! That’ll teach me.
It used to be a popular format for graphics and sound on the old Commodore Amiga, poor thing. It stands for Interchange File Format.
Can you supply more information about what you are trying to do?
I use .IFF files a fair bit, they’re a format that the 3D modeling program Maya (Alias|Wavefront) uses for images.
You should be able to open it using Photoshop. I dont know if its possible to “Install” it, but if it is indeed an image file, perhaps you should put it in the “Texures” folder of your game? poke around in the folders your game put on your machine when you installed it. If you see a bunch of other files labeled .IFF, it might be a safe bet to stick it in there.
If it seems to want to overwrite anything when you put it in, make sure you save a back up copy of the file its trying to overwrite. That way if your copy screws something up, you can fix it by putting the original back in.
filext also indicates that an .iff file is a Sims (Maxis) Object/Data file. Is this the game you’re playing?
And if it is, what do you mean by “install”? The sims .iff files aren’t installable programs, you just unzip them and put them in the maxis/thesims/downloads folder without having to do anything else to them.
If it’s a picture, then like Berkut said, it’s the Interchange File Format developed by Electronic Arts for distributing images. If you have the freeware image viewer IrFanView installed on your computer, you should be able to view it with this program. (Make sure all the plug-ins are installed, too)
You are right, it is for the Sims.
It’s an object I want to download from a web site… to cheat!
I downloaded it and placed it in Maxis/Sims/downloads folder, then I thought I had to do in there and click on it to “install” it, but maybe I don’t even need to…? If I start up the game, it might just be there…
I am gonna try now. Thanks a lot guys.
All right, I look for complicated things where there’re none…
It worked, I downloaded it again (I had removed it), unzipped it and just went to the game, and here it was, waiting to be used!
Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate it. Now I don’t have to make friends in the Sims Unleashed…
