I have a friend pitching me for a job at a local company to a semi-friend at a local AFB. Semi-friend asked “Does he know anything about systems?” Friend answered “Well, you know how intelligent he is,” with which semi-friend concurred.
but, I still haven’t an idea what is meant by ‘systems,’ and I want to be able to spring at least a line about knowing at least what is meant by same.
Of course, I know what a system is, but what is meant by the word used as a catch-all in a business context?
thanks for any help,
hh
“Systems analysis” is a catch-all for general data analysis and application to one or any number of connected processes. The key word here is “general”, in that the problems (even the types of problems) are rather open-ended or undefined. In general, you could be expected to guide decisions on issues such as national or corporate plans and programs, resource use and protection policies, research and development in technology, etc. using acceptable data analysis and a well-defined, scientific approach. Problems could be build around the feasibility of particular actions, cost-effectiveness of solutions, risk-benefits, etc.
It’s unlikely you’d do all of these, but they serve to illustrate how broad the category can be.
