What are the best discussion boards on the web besides SDMB?

An excellent example of what I’m talking about was the “Rock Star” thread which they kept deleting, apparently because people had favorites.

They’ll ban you for things like signing your posts.

Some of the mods are better than others. The TAR mod is pretty good. The AI mod is a moron.

I gotta second Fark.

**Fortean Times ** is another for a good read. I don’t belong, but I love the mag.
Another place that is the total opposite of Fark and actually produces stuff is for the crafty person, Craftster Whatever your obsession or whatever you want to learn, this is it. They treat newbies real nice there and there are picture tutorials available to hold your hand along the way. Awesome, awesome place that isn’t your granny crafts.

The best movie board has to be IMDB “The Earth’s Biggest Movie Database”
http://www.imdb.com/boards/

These are nonsense and seem overly represented by the under 17 crowd. Here is a much better place to discuss movies.

I must say, I was particularly commenting on the threads that are on the individual movie pages. As for the general boards, I haven’t spent much time there. Sorry.

I agree with Big Bad. I regret I don’t watch more TV because I have so thoroughly enjoyed the commentary on the TWOP forums for the few series I have watched. There seem to be seem wickedly funny and observant people posting there.

I hang out on the Cooking Light board - http://community.cookinglight.com . A good place to ask any question about cooking, and tons of recipes with reviews.

I also cruise the Chronicle of Higher Education, though the discourse can reach high snottiness. It seems to be in a kinder, gentler space this week (probably because it is nearing finals week for many of us.)

I also enjoy the whole www.snopes.com site, including the message boards. They can be a little “Duh??” at times, but do provide entertainment. When I 'm feeling ghostly, www. ForteanTimes.com is a fun paranormal board and site out of the UK. Most exchange there tends to be polite and even literate, if at times a bit out there.
